Faith & Life: Celebrating the Eucharist
The Eucharist is at the heart of our Catholic faith. It is the greatest gift Jesus gave us, instituted at the Last Supper when He took bread and wine and said, "This is my body… This is my blood" (Luke 22:19–20). Through the Eucharist, Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present, offering Himself to us in love and inviting us into a deeper relationship with Him.
Each time we gather to celebrate Mass, we remember Christ's sacrifice, give thanks for God's many blessings, and are nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist strengthens us to live as followers of Jesus, encouraging us to love God, care for others, seek justice, and serve our communities with compassion.
As our Year 4 students prepare to receive the Eucharist for the first time, we celebrate this important milestone in their faith journey. Their First Holy Communion is not simply a special occasion but the beginning of a lifelong invitation to gather at the Lord's table, where they will continue to encounter Christ and be strengthened by His love.
May this sacred celebration deepen their faith and inspire them to live as joyful witnesses to the Gospel each day.
Let us pray...
Loving and faithful God,
We thank You for the precious gift of the Eucharist, where we encounter Your Son, Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life.
As our Year 4 students prepare to receive their First Holy Communion, fill their hearts with wonder, gratitude and joy.
May they come to know Jesus more deeply each time they gather at His table and be nourished by His love.
Strengthen them to follow His example, to serve others with kindness and compassion, and to grow each day as faithful disciples.
Bless their families, who have nurtured them in faith, and our parish and school communities,
who continue to walk alongside them.
May we all be renewed through the Eucharist and inspired to share Christ's love with everyone we meet.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
