Principal's Updates

As we move further into this term, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful sense of community that defines our school. It is always a joy to see our families coming together and our recent Father’s Figures Breakfast was a truly outstanding example of this spirit. The event was an overwhelming success, with a fantastic turnout that was filled with laughter, conversation and the wonderful aroma of fresh coffee and croissants. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, mothers and special male mentors who woke up early to join us. Your presence meant the world to our students and the joy on their faces as they walked into school side-by-side with you was unmistakable.

Events like these do more than just provide a pleasant morning; they highlight a vital truth which is the profound importance of positive male role models in the lives of our young people.

Research and experience both show that when positive male figures are actively engaged in a child's education and daily life, the benefits are immense. This involvement builds confidence, fosters emotional resilience and provides a secure foundation from which our students can explore the world. By simply being present, whether that is attending a school breakfast, cheering from the side lines or listening to how their day went, these are examples of how our fathers and mentors are model integrity, kindness and commitment.

In a world that moves faster than ever, the steady guidance of a positive male role model is an anchor for our children. 

Thank you for partnering with us, for investing in our community and for being the everyday heroes our students look up to.

🌟 R U OK? Day - Tuesday 8 September

On Tuesday, 8 September, our school will celebrate R U OK? Day by asking students to wear a splash of yellow to their school uniformto support this initiative!

This annual day reminds us that we don’t need to be experts to support the people we care about. We just need to be good friends and good listeners.

This year's theme reminds us that "any day is R U OK? day." You don't need a special qualification to ask someone how they are doing—just a genuine willingness to listen and show you care.

MACSSIS - Parent Feedback Surveys

As part of our ongoing improvement process, we invite parents to complete the MACSSIS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys). This is an important opportunity for us to listen to your feedback, which guides our planning for 2027 and beyond. The survey link has been sent to many families (via the main debtor email) last week, and we kindly ask that it be completed by Friday, September 18. Your feedback is anonymous and we truly value it to help us grow as a school community.

As a fun incentive, students from families who complete the survey will receive a free icy pole in the last week of term and an as an added bonus you can go into the running to win 1 of 3 Box Hill Indoor Sports School Holiday Vouchers! Please email a screenshot of your submission confirmation to office@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au when you have completed the survey to treat your kids!

Morning Student Supervision & Access

Please be reminded that students must not be left unattended at the back of the school or at the front school gate before the gate and rear roller doors are opened.

• Gate Opening Time: School access areas open by 8:30 AM, once a staff member is officially on duty.
• Safety First: For student safety, parents and carers must remain with their children until the gates are open and duty supervision has commenced.
• Early Drop-Offs: If you require an earlier drop-off time, our Before School Care program through MACSEYE is available to accommodate your children safely.

Twilight Working Bee - Thank You!

A massive thank you to all the wonderful families and enthusiastic students who rolled up their sleeves and lent a helping hand at our Twilight Working Bee!

Thanks to your incredible hard work - tackling weeding, shovelling, and moving a mountain of mulch. Our school grounds are looking fresh, tidy and vibrant. It was fantastic to see our community come together, work hard, and then unwind over a well-deserved sausage sizzle dinner.

Your time, energy, and community spirit make a huge difference to our school. We truly appreciate your support!

Term 3 Final School Fee Statements

The end of Term 3 is fast approaching, so this is a quick reminder to please ensure your school fee payments are up-to-date. Fee statements will be sent to families before the end of this term. For families on a per-term instalment plan, please ensure your final, Term 3 payment is completed by Friday, 18 September.
