Senior Hoop Time
Monday, 10 August saw our Senior Hoop Time day at State Basketball Centre. Park Ridge entered 15 teams into the event, once again an outstanding uptake. Students have been training in their teams since the beginning of term and I have been particularly impressed by the leadership shown by the nominated training captains of each team. Park Ridge had a great day on the court, with both our All Star Boys and Girls teams, as well as the Park Ridge Penguins in the Girls Future Stars Division make the grand final but unfortunately lost. In the Boys Future Stars Division, 3 out of our 5 teams made the Quarter Finals, with the Park Ridge Redbacks meeting the Park Ridge Retrievers in the grand final. In an exciting game, the Redbacks got the choccies by 1 point and will progress through to Regional Hoop Time in Term 4!
I’d like to thank the parents who offered to help with either coaching or scoring for teams. It was also a nice touch having older siblings and Park Ridge alumni Mitch, Liam and Oliver coaching some teams too.
District Athletics
The Rowville District Athletics Championships was held on Friday, 14 August at Knox Athletics Track. The day saw 73 of our finest athletes from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 compete against the other schools in our district. Students qualified for their given events off the back of strong performances at our House Athletics Carnival in Term 1, and have been training at school since the beginning of term. Park Ridge finished in 6th place out of 8 schools. All members of the team should feel very proud of their efforts on the day and a big congratulations to the following students who finished in the top 2 in their events to progress through to the Knox Division Championships on Wednesday, 16 September:
Hannah R - 1st in Shot Put with a new school record of 9.2m and 2nd in Discus with a new school record of 19.43m

AFLW Player Appearance
Last Wednesday, our students were treated to a special guest appearance from a number of AFLW players from Hawthorn FC. Players Poppy Stockwell, Laura Elliott, Emily Bates, Lavina Cox, Lucy Wales, Jenna Richardson and Bridie Hipwell delivered an engaging Q&A and autograph signing session for those in attendance. The timeslot we were given was during the lunch break and it was really impressive to have over 100 students across the school choose to give up their play time to meet the players. I was particularly impressed with the respect shown by our students when listening to their answers.
