Principal's message

Hi Solway Community,

As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for the support and partnership shown throughout the term. It has been a very positive start to the year, with students settling into routines, building strong relationships and engaging well in their learning. The calm and focused tone across the school has been pleasing to see and sets a strong foundation for the year ahead.

Staffing Update

I am pleased to welcome Wendy Milner to Solway Primary School as our new Business Manager. Wendy brings a wealth of experience and is already making a positive contribution to the day to day operations of the school. I know she will be a great support to both staff and families. I would also like to wish Rob Tongue all the very best as he commences family leave at the start of Term 2 to welcome his third child. This is a special time for Rob and his family, and we look forward to hearing their news.

Respect and Kindness

As we move towards the end of term, we have noticed an increase in some students speaking unkindly to one another. At Solway Primary School, our value of Respect underpins how we interact with others. This includes the words we choose and the way we treat those around us. We continue to work with students at school to reinforce these expectations, and we ask for your support in having similar conversations at home. Speaking with kindness and showing respect are shared responsibilities and are essential in maintaining the positive and inclusive culture we value.

Industrial Action

On Tuesday, members of our teaching staff took part in industrial action through the Australian Education Union. This was not a decision made lightly but one grounded in our shared commitment to ensuring the best possible learning environment for our students. We care deeply about our school, our students and our community, and our actions reflect a desire to see public education better supported and resourced so that we can continue to meet the diverse needs of every learner. We sincerely thank our families for their understanding and ongoing support.

Planning Week

Next week is Planning Week for our teaching staff. During this time, specialist classes will be scheduled on the same day for each class. This allows our classroom teachers dedicated time to work together to plan for Term 2 learning.

End of Term Assembly

Our End of Term Assembly will be held on Thursday at 1:45pm. Families are welcome to attend. At this assembly, we will also be introducing a new award, Aussie of the Month, which recognises students who demonstrate our school values and contribute positively to our community. We look forward to celebrating our students together.

End of Term

As we come to the end of a busy term, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their continued efforts and support. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break and hope you have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday April 20.

Thank you for your continued support and lets all strive to be “our best always”.
