Parent Helper & Volunteers

Are you interested in volunteering and helping at our school?
There are many wonderful ways parents and carers can get involved in school life, including:
- Attending excursions
- Helping in Prep and JLA classrooms (see further info below)
- Selling goods at special event stalls
- Assisting in the library
- Supporting fundraising or special events such as Mother’s Day
- Cooking the barbeque at events
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, all parent helpers are required to complete the 2026 MACS Code of Conduct & Child Safety Training for volunteers before participating. By completing this training, we can ensure that volunteers understand the important role they play in maintaining and promoting the safety of our students.
To volunteer at St Jospeh the Worker, you need to:
- Attend one MACS Code of Conduct and Child Safety session in 2026 (you must complete the course each year, even if you have completed it in previous years)
- Have a current Working with Children Check
I will be running MACS Code of Conduct and Child Safety sessions on: (attend one)
- Monday 27 April at 2:15-3:15pm (in the Planning room at school)
- Wednesday 29 April 9:00-10:00am (in the Planning Room at school)
- Wednesday 6 May 6:00-7:00pm (online via Teams - the meeting link will be emailed out to those who have registered for this session)
Please note: No further opportunities will be offered to complete this training in 2026.
Please register for the session you wish to attend on Office Forms.
You can check your WWCC is current or apply for a Working with Children Check at https://www.vic.gov.au/working-with-children-check
Prep and JLA Classroom Helpers 2026
This year, the focus of the classroom helpers' program is “fluency”.
Classroom helpers will work with one or two children practicing fluency in:
- Reading
- Spelling
- Letter and sound identification
- Number recognition and counting.
Fluency sessions will be either in the morning or the afternoon:
- 8:30-8:45 am
- 3:00-3:15 pm
After completing one of the MACS Code of Conduct & Child Safety sessions you will be contacted by your child/ren’s classroom teacher to organise the helpers’ roster.
You will also need to provide the school with a copy of your current Working With Children Check.
We look forward to working with you!
Kind regards,
Cherrie Eaton (Learning & Teaching)
