From the Acting Principal

Dear families,

Welcome to Term 3 everyone. I hope all families were able to spend time together relaxing and enjoying each other’s company over the recent term holidays, despite the cold Melbourne winter weather. Holidays are a great opportunity for our students to recharge their batteries, especially after a long and demanding Term 2. I look forward to a productive term of learning and growth together.

We had a beautiful celebration last term on Sunday 21st June when 9 of our students received the Sacrament of 1st Eucharist. I would like to congratulate the families of these 1st Communicants who have done such a great job in nurturing, guiding and supporting the children in their faith formation. Thank you to our school staff members who have done so much to support the children over the years. Particular thanks to our Religious Education Leader, Ms Dorothy Mash and our Yr3/4 Teachers Ms Emma Crotty, Ms Stef Marin and Ms Penny Camiot for their leadership and guidance. We also thank St Mark’s Parish Priest Fr Colin Xavier for leading the lovely celebration.

St Mark’s Family Disco - Our Family Disco will be held this term on Friday August 28th, 6-7.30pm in our Hall. This will be a fun filled night for all the family to come along and dance the night away. There will be music to suit everyone’s taste, no matter which era you grew up in! Please note, the Family Disco is a family event. All children will need to be accompanied by adult family members. All details will be sent home as arrangements are finalised. To ensure this event is a great success, we require parental assistance to plan the event and run the night please. If you can help out, please come to our next Kids Matter @ St Mark's Action Team Meeting - this Friday at 2:00pm (just before the 2:45pm assembly).

Assemblies - Assemblies in Term 3 will be held at 2.45pm on Fridays. This week will be a general assembly where we will acknowledge the Term 2 Week 10 and Term 3 Week 1 Learners of the Week and Birthdays.  All are welcome!

There will be occasions when Assemblies will be held in the morning.... 

Two such occasions coming up are the Celebration of Grandparents Assembly which will be held next Friday July 24th at 10.30am and the Father’s Day Assembly which will be held at 9.00am on Friday September 4th (details to be advised).

Celebration of Grandparents - Please join us next Friday July 24th for our Celebration of Grandparents. The morning will commence with Open Classrooms at 9.30am followed by a special Assembly led by our Year 3/4s. Morning tea will follow at 11.00am in the Family Lounge. All welcome.

Staff leave arrangements - welcome back Maria (LA7) after only a few days Long Service Leave at the end of last term to celebrate a big brithday (shhhh...). Carol (LSO) in Prep and Chloe (LA2) will also be on Long Service leave for the first two weeks of Term 3. Thankyou to Carmel (one of our regular replacment teachers) for supporting the Prep learners as the LA2 teacher throughout this time.

Dates to Remember - all the the Term Dates and School Closure days have been published on the Dates to Remember page since the start of the year. Add these to your diary! The events and special days for Term 3 have been added. These are added to and updated each fortnight. 

Crossing Safety - St Mark's families are reminded again to use the School Crossings to cross Argyle and Lee Sts. Not only is this a safe practice, it also is a great example to the children to teach them vitally important road safety skills.  Please do not cross the road in front of the staff carpark and school gate - this is very dangerous, walk the extra few metres to use the crossing. We welcome back our Crossing Supervisor, Eugenia this week.
