Mr Matt Elson

Hello Gympie East parents, carers and community,

Our term is wrapping up, but there is still so much left to do with athletics, under 8s day, Year 5 Careers Expo, Year 1 & 2 Excursion to Wildlife HQ as well as finalising everything for Report Cards. We will email reports home on Thursday 25 June, if you do not receive it, please email admin@gympieeastss.eq.edu.au and I will send it out individually. Please first check that it hasn't gone to your junk mail. It has been a terrific term, in our final newsletter of the term I will share our academic results from the Semester.

In PBL this week, we have been focussed on 'Being Engaged Learners'. This is critical as we are extremely close to finalising assessments. Being engaged and focussed can be the difference between reaching the A or B on an assessment task. Next week, we will focus on 'Being Supportive'. Hopefully, during our athletics on Thursday and Friday, students are able to support each other and even when competing against a student in the other house. It is great to be competitive, but being a great sport and cheering on your friends and peers is just as important.

All school camp invoices have now been sent out. By issuing them early, we hope to give families — especially those with children in multiple year levels — plenty of time to plan and spread out payments. This way, everyone can look forward to camp without the stress of last-minute costs. If you wish to use your Back To School Bonus credit, please indicate this on the Consent form. This credit needs to be applied manually by the school. If you have any further questions about your invoice or payment options, please contact the school office by phone 5487 7111 or email: admin@gympieeastss.eq.edu.au

Athletics

We are super excited that it is almost athletics time! Below is the program for the 2 days. Thursday 18th June we will be running 200m and 800m finals in the morning as we cannot fit them into our main day on Friday. Then Thursday afternoon at 2pm we will all gather for Ball Games - parents are most welcome to come and watch. We will hopefully have time for our annual parents v staff v student competition.

The big day is Friday 19th June. Students can wear a yellow or green shirt and get into the house spirit. Please make sure they have a hat and water bottle. They can bring their own lunch or purchase from tuckshop using QKR, please make sure orders are in early. Friday begins with a war cry, followed by sprint heats for all students. Then field events for students born 2017-2014, while our 2021-2018 students will participate in fun, track and field based rotations. Then we gather back together for sprint finals, followed by relays. Maybe a parent v staff v student race, then we'll announce age champions and the overall house champion. Who will it be? Cook or Oxley???

Next week (Week 9), Gympie East will be having a Handball Free Week. We love the enthusiasm, teamwork and fun that handball brings to our playgrounds, but sometimes it's good to mix things up and enjoy the many other games, activities and opportunities that school has to offer. We encourage students to use the week to try something new, reconnect with old favourites and make the most of all the great things happening around our school. We can't wait to see what everyone gets up to!
