LILY COLLINS - VICTORIA POLICE
“I did work experience at the Mildura Police Station as this is the career path I am considering after completing Year 12. Through this experience, it reassured me that it is a pathway I am interested in pursuing and gave me a better understanding of the responsibilities that police officers have and the tasks they do within the community. I was able to observe the roles that police officers have, as well as explore some of the different pathways which can be taken within Victoria Police. I recommend the program to people who are interested as it allows you to see all aspects of the job.”

“I attended my placement at SCHS in the Social and Community Hub – Aged and Disability Services. I had an amazing time socialising with the elders, learning their stories, and having fun playing activities, such as good-old BINGO, Uno, physical exercises, sewing, and so much more. And from this experience, I learnt a lot from them, however, it was not all just positives. I learnt their deepest horrors, their inabilities, and their sadness. It opened a new light for me and my respect for them grew intense. So I truly recommend participating in work experience, it can shine a new light on the world and even yourself.”

It was a good experience that I got insights about the work of accountants, and the idea of part-time uni and part-time job. “I chose Elders Rural Services because I am keen to get into the agriculture industry and I learnt so much more than I expected, while working with Elders I wanted to learn more about the Ag industry and everyone behind it. I spent two days with the livestock agents at the Ouyen sheep sales where I learnt how the sales worked and helped with drafting and penning the sheep, on the other days I got to do things like sending feed samples and completing deliveries to farms around the Sunraysia region. I loved every part of work experience and 100% recommend doing it!”

“I did my placement at M group as becoming an accountant is my dream job, and I wanted to see what it’s really like. During my time there, I learned what accountants do day to day and the online systems they use for their clients. I worked on trust tasks, completed individual tax return calculations, and researched tax deductions for different types of jobs. The experience definitely met my expectations. The staff were really kind and welcoming, which made it easier to settle in and learn. I’d recommend this program to other students as it gives real insight into the workplace.”

“I did my work experience with Tom Knight at Active Health Mildura Exercise Physiology. I am very interested in health, fitness, and sport so I wanted to explore how exercise physiology would fit in with my interest. This experience met my expectations, I really enjoyed how Tom let me be involved in a hands-on way and getting to know his clients. This experience has made me want to explore the possibility of exercise physiology as a career. I would recommend work experience to everyone as it’s a great opportunity to see if you would enjoy a career path you’re considering.”
CAMERON BEGGS - PRO KARTS POORAKA
“Last week, I completed my work experience in the automotive industry. I worked at Pro Karts Pooraka, where I helped prepare karts and learned how they operate. Each morning, I would check tyre pressure on all 15 karts tires, made sure they were safe, then move them to the pit area. I also learned how important safety and teamwork are. My favourite part was briefing customers, as it helped build my confidence in speaking. Overall, it was a valuable experience and gave me a better idea of working in this industry.”

“Over the holidays I completed work experience at the Mildura Private Hospital. My future endeavours relate to the study of medicine and nursing so I figured that the hospital would be an incredible place to learn and observe from professionals in their workplace. During my placement I attempted to learn and take in as much as possible and I gathered a wonderful experience. I didn’t know what to expect throughout my placement, but the placement exceeded my expectations, the staff were extremely kind and accommodating and went out of their way to ensure I learnt as much as possible. From my experience, I would recommend work experience for all students its available to, the amount that you will learn from placement is significant and invaluable.”

“When I decided to do my work experience placement at the Mildura Base Public Hospital, it was because I knew I wanted to be surrounded by a professional medicine-based environment that would value and support me. Before going into my work experience, I knew I wanted to pursue something within the medicine field, therefore I wanted to learn what an environment of the hospital was like and also achieve an understanding of the different roles within the hospital. Overall, it was one of the most enriching experiences possible. It was educational, fun and an excellent way to learn and build connections. A great program that I would recommend to all students.”

“I completed my work experience placement at Mildura Kids Health Clinic. I chose this because of my interest in Occupational Therapy and passion for helping others. Here, I hope to gain insight into what OT’s do daily. Mildura Kids Clinic offered me a wide variety as I was able to see how they treated clients from young to old. My expectations were exceeded, and I gained lots of knowledge. Every part of my experience was great. I highly recommend everyone trying work experience as I learnt a lot and had fun.”

“For my work experience I went and helped an electrician working on the new MCA shed on Benetook. I mainly chose Doug to work for because he is a trusted and great electrician, he is also working with my dad at the shed, so I was able to work with my dad. I also chose to work with Doug because I wanted to learn more about being an electrician and what is involved in joining a trade. It was very fun and I enjoyed my work experience a lot, I would recommend doing work experience for anyone who’s having trouble deciding what path they want to go down in life.”

“I chose to do my work experience at Mildura Private Hospital to see what nursing is actually like day to day. I’ve always been interested in it, but after seeing how the nurses handle their shifts and look after patients, I’m now sure it’s what I really want to do. The experience met my expectations and more, I honestly loved it and the best part was seeing how much of a difference the staff make every day. I’d definitely recommend this program to anyone thinking about healthcare it’s the best way to get a feel for the job and see what it’s actually like in person.”
