A Message from David & Cam

It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the halfway point of the term! The weeks have certainly been flying by and there has been plenty happening across the school, both in and out of classrooms. As the weather starts to get colder and the mornings become a little harder to get moving, it has been great to see our students continuing to arrive ready to learn and making the most of every opportunity.

Farewell, Jenny

In news that I am sure will sadden our community, our wonderful admin staff member, Jenny, has recently made the decision to retire at the end of this term.

For so many families, students and staff, Jenny has been the friendly face at the front office and the person who always seemed to know exactly how to help. Her ability to make connections with people has made a lasting impact on our community and she has been pivotal in building the welcoming environment that our school is known for.

Throughout her time at the school, Jenny has supported countless students and families, often behind the scenes, with kindness, patience and understanding. She has been an important part of the daily life of our school and someone many people have come to know and trust.

While we will greatly miss seeing Jenny in the office each day, we are incredibly grateful for the contribution she has made to our school over many years. We thank her for everything she has given to our community and wish her all the very best for a happy and well-deserved retirement.

Let’s make her final weeks at Altona Green the best!

Mother’s & Special Person’s Day

A couple of weeks ago, we loved celebrating all the mums, grandmothers and other special people in our students’ lives. It was fantastic to see so many families enjoying time together under Gumbuya and around the school grounds with friends and loved ones.

A huge thank you to Leanne and Ben for organising the stall and event, and another big thank you to the wonderful volunteers who gave up their time behind the scenes to help make the day such a success for our community.

We hope all the mums and special people in our community had a wonderful Mother’s Day, were thoroughly spoilt, and enjoyed spending time with their families.

Athletics & Sports Day

3-6 Athletics

Our 3-6 Athletics Day was a huge success! The weather gods smiled on us and our students gave their all in the events. There were some fantastic performances, however the highlight of the day was seeing and hearing how encouraging our students were to their peers. Nancy is compiling the results of the different events and working out who will progress to the next stages of competition. This information will be published in the near future. Thank you to Nancy and Sarah for all their hard work in organising the Athletics Day.

P-2 Sports Day

Whilst all the big kids were off at athletics, our P-2 students were enjoying a fun-filled morning of different activities and games. The sports day was a great success and all the students had a great time. The P-2 students were able to make new friends in their mixed groups and were required to work together to complete challenges. Thanks to all the teachers, ES staff and parents that were able to help out and make the event so fun for our students.

Industrial Action Update

Following the recent in-principle agreement between the Department and the Australian Education Union (AEU), the planned industrial action, including the half-day stop work, has now been suspended.

This means school operations will continue as normal on Thursday 4th June.

Semester 1 reports will also be distributed as planned on Monday 22nd June. Reports will still include student achievement against the Victorian Curriculum, however full written comments will not be included this semester due to the earlier industrial action.

If you would like to discuss your child’s progress further, we encourage you to attend parent-teacher interviews on Tuesday 23rd or Wednesday 24th June, or contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting.

Pupil Free Day

A reminder that Friday (5th June) is a pupil free day. This day is allocated as a professional practice day which is to enable teachers to focus on the improved delivery of high quality teaching and learning.

In consultation with the staff and the school council, we have allocated the professional practice day as a pupil-free day. Teachers will be working on areas such as planning, assessment and reporting. TeamKids will be available for all day care on this day.

2027 Enrolments

2027 Prep enrolments are now open. All enrolment applications from parents/carers are to be submitted by Friday, 31st July 2026.

If you have a child beginning prep in 2027, please contact Jenny as soon as possible as this assists us greatly with planning.

Additionally, please also let us know if you are not expecting to be at AGPS in 2027.

Tours are also available for any families who wish to see our school. Please see below for upcoming tour dates:
