Stephen's News

Dear Families,

Last Friday we celebrated our school’s Feast Day with a Mass, a magic show, a sausage sizzle and various other fun activities. Days like this remind us that for our students, school can be about so much more than academics. It gives us opportunities for connectedness, friendship and social learning, not to mention simply enjoying each others’ company. During the days of Covid’s remote learning, these were the things that we found hardest to replicate, and for which we were most grateful when we returned to school in person. Let’s continue to treasure the opportunities that these days bring.

We were lucky enough to have a very special visitor at our Feast Day Mass on Friday. Sr Jose, who worked in the OLMC Parish from 2011-2024, came along so we could say an official thank you and farewell. Sr Jose was the last in a long line of Sisters of St Joseph who worked tirelessly in our community, stretching back to 1916. Back then, the Sisters kept Catholic Education alive in Sunbury at a time when various government policies meant that there was no funding available. As a school, we are very grateful for the Sisters’ many years of service, and in particular the contribution of Sr Jose over the past 13 years. As you can see in the images above, some of our talented Year 6 artists created a couple of art pieces that we gifted to Sr Jose. As you can see, they captured both Sr Jose and Mary Mackillop wonderfully.
