CELEBRATING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE@CSPS

Great Writing Begins with...

Great ideas! In Years 3 and 4, we begin our writing "cycles" by developing ideas about our character, and the setting. We like to get creative and artistic (with a sprinkle of a wild imagination). Once we have established who the character is and where the character is, we can begin to build vocabulary that brings the character to life. Establishing ideas around the character enables students to visualise a story plan for their character. We have a lot of fun developing characters and plots! Stay tuned for our Term 1 Writing Learning Tasks (first draft) available on Compass.

Mathematicians in the making...

Years 3 and 4 have been working hard refining and extending their place value skills this term. Students have been using hands on materials to explore, investigate and understand the base ten place value system.

A large emphasis has been placed on:

  • Comparing, ordering, reading and writing large numbers
  • Unitise and renaming whole numbers
  • Paritioning
  • Extending place value to the tenths and hundreds
  • Compare and order decimals

Keep an eye out for our Term 1 Maths Learning Task going live on Compass in week 7.

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum.

Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics.

All government and non-government education authorities contribute to the development of NAPLAN test materials.
