Celebrating Student Achievements
We often celebrate our students' achievements in the newsletter but this has been a week of celebrating a huge variety of successes! Many of our students have made some remarkable achievements and were presented with awards.
Last week we held the spectacular Art exhibition where our talented Year 5 and 6 students displayed their delightful Art pieces with, Elise and Mitsuki (6H), Grace W (5S) and Bennett (6R) all receiving special awards for their artistic flair. If you weren't able to come in person, you can get a last chance to see the exhibition on the Art page.
All the students in Year 1 impressed familes, staff and students with their Habitat exhibition. Their dioramas were so creative and their informative posters impressive! It was lovely to see students proudly explaining to their parents and visitors all about their chosen animal's habitat and how they had created it. You can see more on the Student Voice page.
Monday morning's assembly was opened with a beautiful performance from our Corelli Strings group.
The assembly was jam-packed with awards given out to the top readers in each year level for The Premier's Reading Challenge. Congratulations to our voracious readers:
Ottilia (1R), Charlie (2N), William (3O), Audrey (4T), Sophie (5S) and Edward (6R).
Maths Olympiad
Ms Murphy presented awards to students who had competed in the Maths Olympiad. These students performed exceptionally well. Congratulations on a hard earned achievment.
Australian Maths Competition
Mr Tottenham presented awards to celebrate the wonderful achievements of those who participated in Australian Maths Competition, 2024.
This extremely challenging test is completed by tens of thousands of students across the country every year. Students must solve complex problems, think critically, apply knowledge to new concepts, and use a variety of other higher order thinking skills.
All students who participated should be extremely proud of what they've achieved.
Aaron and Amelia were the recipients of the High Distinction award which placed them in the top 3% of students in our region. These two students have also been awarded the ‘best in school’ award, Amelia for middle primary division and Aaron for upper primary division. The best in school award is presented to the student who has achieved the highest result in their respective division within our school. Well done to all students and a special congratulations to Aaron and Amelia.
ICAS
Neil P was presented with an extra special award for placing in the top 1% of students in our region for ICAS Digital Technologies. He was presented with a medal, a pen and a commemorative book in which he was named. Well done Neil!
All of these awards were in addition to our stars of the week who consistently display our school values.
We are looking forward to celebrating more achievements on the sporting field when we hold the upcoming F-2 Athletics Morning.
Student are excitedly preparing for the F-2 Athletics Morning on Friday 29th November. If you're able to volunteer to help supervise an event please get in touch with your child's teacher.
Students will be competing within their Houses so students are encouraged to wear house colours to school that day.
Children do not have a fully developed sense of road safety
We implore families to avoid making U-turns and using neighbours driveways to beat the traffic during drop off and pick up times. All the streets bordering our school are dead-ends. Lowe Street, particularly is extremely tight and not suitable for drivers to turn at the bottom. With children in close proximity, the simple act of reversing and turning in these streets during pick up and drop off times is fraught with danger. Aisla Grove does have a turning circle towards the end of the street and is much safer for pedestrians providing drivers do the right thing.
Please drive respectfully and keep in mind that children do not have a fully developed sense of road safety. It is much safer to plan ahead for an extra 5 or 10 mins and park in one of the surrounding car parks.
REMINDER - Children must not be dropped off at school before 8.45am unless they are attending a school sanctioned program. Staff are not on duty before 8.45am. Siblings of children attending chess or any other before school program cannot be left unsupervised. Parents of children left unattended will be required to pick them up.
All Victorian Government Schools undertake a comprehensive school review every 4 years to inform the directions of the school’s 4 - year School Strategic Plan (SSP).
NAPLAN assessments and the calculation of results in the Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS), School Staff Survey (SSS) and Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS) have implications for future target and goal setting.
There are 2 components of a school review:
In Term 1 of 2025 Ivanhoe Primary School enters a period of review. As part of the PRSE key stakeholders, comprising students, parents / carers, staff and school council are provided with opportunities via forums and surveys to contribute.
As part of our School Strategic Plan Review, we are inviting parents/carers to identify highlights of Ivanhoe Primary School over the last 4 years (2021-2024).
The leadership team has brainstormed a list from which you can select up to five (5) highlights as well as there is a box at the bottom of the form to add what may have been overlooked. Please use the QR Code or link below to access the for
https://forms.office.com/r/Gnq2xyAEMF
School Council has developed their highlights as have the school staff and the Junior School Council. Each group see the school through a different lens so all feedback will be useful in the review process.
When the school review begins in early March there will be invitations to join forums and discussions to assist the school to develop its next School Strategic Plan.
As we approach the mid-point of term 4 the thoughts of our students inevitably turn to ‘what happens next year’?
For some this is a matter-of-fact process that barely raises a mention, for others it can be a more challenging time with the various uncertainties that come about.
Term 4 sees a structured approach to the transition process being implemented by our teaching staff. Your child may well have already shared news of taking part in activities across their whole year level or collaborating with students in another class on a project. As the weeks go by they will also be visiting their ‘buddy classes’ in both the year level above and below them, this allows your child to ask questions, visit the learning spaces and hear from the students in that year level about what they can expect.
Every student also has the opportunity to complete a ‘who I Work well with’ template. This gives your child the chance to share five other students from their year level who they think would be a go match for their 2025 classroom.
This information is included in the process of class creation to make sure that every student has at least one of their choices in their classroom. Teaching staff use a range of other information when generating these classes, including, academic and social profiles, gender, support requirements, incidents of any student conflict, classroom observation of learning habits and the overall make up of a classroom to support all the learners within it.
Our transition process will culminate with a ‘meet the teacher’ day on December 9th. This is the day that statewide transition occurs so our current grad 6 students will be visiting their high school, and we will be welcoming our 2025 foundation cohort. All students will spend a block of time with their 2025 class and teacher, this time will be spent focusing upon building relationships, collaborative activities and preparing for the new school year.
The process that we have in place is both robust and supportive of our student needs and we look forward to both the challenge and excitement of the time ahead.

Our teachers are busy working on the mammoth task of creating next year's classes. It is an extremely complex task where teachers take many factors and considerations into account when aiming for optimal classes that benefit very student. We would expect by now, if you have specific information that needs to be taken into account for next year's class placement you would have had a discussion with your child's teacher. Please be aware though, that we are not able to take parent requests for specific teachers.
Thank you for your continued support.
