Werte,
As Term 3 comes to a close, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the incredible experiences and growth we’ve witnessed across our school community. It has been a term marked by adventure, purpose, compassion, and relationships - qualities that speak to the heart of who we are at Living Waters Lutheran School.
One of the most memorable highlights this term has been our school camps. These experiences offered our students the chance to step beyond the classroom and into environments that challenged, inspired, and transformed them. Whether discovering democracy at work, watching a moving Last Post ceremony, discovering where Alice Springs began, or simply sharing stories at night in the bunks, our students embraced every moment with open hearts and brave spirits.
We saw students being truly adventurous as they tried new things, pushed past their comfort zones, and discovered strengths they didn’t know they had. Their courage was evident in the way they faced challenges head-on, supported one another through uncertainty, and persevered with grit and grace.
Equally inspiring was the compassion and relational depth that emerged. Students looked out for each other, offered encouragement, and built bonds that will last well beyond the term. These moments of kindness and connection remind us that learning is not just academic, it’s deeply human.
I am incredibly proud of the way our students have lived out our school values this term. Their actions on camp reflected the very essence of Living Waters: a community where every child is known, valued, and empowered to grow.
This term we also say farewell to Ramzy, who has been a valued LSO in the Reef. We thank him for the care, dedication, and support he has shown to our students and wish him every success in the future. At the same time, we warmly welcome Derrick to our staff team as he steps into the IT role. We look forward to the skills, energy, and fresh perspectives he will bring to our school community.
As we head into the break, I encourage everyone to rest, reflect, and celebrate the achievements of this term. Thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and of course, our remarkable students for making Term 3 such a success.
Wishing you a safe and joyful holiday.
Blessings,
Lisa
Have you ever lost something valuable? Jesus tells two short stories about people who had lost something important to them (Luke 15:1-10). The first is a shepherd who loses a sheep. He has ninety-nine others but still goes in search of the one that is missing. He searches and searches until he finds it and then returns to the others with great joy.
The second story is about a woman looking for a lost coin. She has nine others but that doesn’t stop her lighting a lamp and turning her house upside down to find the one she lost. You have to remember that coin represents one tenth of her total wealth! Of course she is overjoyed when she finally finds the lost coin.
Jesus uses these stories to describe God’s relationship with us. Sometimes we have a hard time seeing our worth. We might lack self-esteem or believe the negative things people say about us. The stories Jesus tells remind us of how precious we are in God’s eyes. Even if we feel ‘lost,’ even if we are ‘lost’ in some sense, God is still out there looking for us. He still cares.
According to Jesus, God takes great joy in finding us, being close to us and having us trust and follow him. Of course, these stories also encourage us to ‘keep searching’ and encouraging other people in our lives who might have lost their way. God never gives up on them and neither should we. He is the Good Shepherd.
At Living Waters, we highlight different families and staff members to pray for each week. Praying for people in our community by name shows that we care for them as God does. He knows and loves each of us individually, and when we lift others up in prayer, we recognise their value in His eyes. This strengthens our community by bringing us closer together, reminding us to support and encourage one another.

My name is Derrick McQuern, and I’m proud to be a father of two wonderful children who both attend Living Waters. Our family made the exciting move to Alice Springs about a year ago from Florida USA, embracing a new adventure as my wife accepted a work opportunity here.
With over 18 years of experience in technology implementation and support within higher education, I’m passionate about creating environments where learning can thrive. I’m eager to take on any challenges my new role brings and contribute to fostering an optimal technological setting for our students and staff to grow, explore, and succeed.
I look forward to connecting with many of you and being part of the journey that shapes the future of our young learners.

A reflection written by Luke Pfeiffer, Blake Derr & Lexi Goldsworthy
On the morning of September 1st, we left on the plane to go to Canberra via Sydney. The first thing we did when we landed in Sydney was find our bus. We drove to Canberra, stopping at Maccas along the way for dinner. We eventually arrived at our cabins and went to bed. On the next day, we woke up to bacon and eggs for breakfast. Then, we were off to Questacon! Questacon was heaps of fun; many people’s favourite was the zero-gravity slide. We also loved the liquid nitrogen show. Next, we went to the AEC (Australian Electoral Commission) and got to do our own vote - it was a tie! We also went to the War Memorial and stayed for the Last Post ceremony. Day two in Canberra, we went to the Deep Space Communication Complex and saw a real moon rock. We then went to Parliament House and saw the Senate and House of Representatives in session! We also saw Anthony Albanese. We then went to the Museum of Australian Democracy. Next day, we explored the Royal Australian Mint and saw robots making the coins! After that, we drove back to Sydney and explored Circular Quay, and we took photos outside the Opera House! That evening, we had a trivia night about our camp, Brad’s team took out the win! We woke up really early the next day and went to the airport. At about 10:00 am, we boarded the plane to travel back home. We were all glad to be back in Alice Springs, but overall, this was one of the best camps ever!
