Welcome back for the final term of the year! We are all so excited for the amazing things that are happening this term! Read on to find out more…

Literacy

This term, The Little Learners Love Literacy (LLLL) program will continue to consolidate and extend our phonics knowledge. We encourage you to keep up at-home reading and the practice of levelled heart words. A reminder that take-home readers should sit at an ‘independent’ level for your child. They should be enjoyable to read together, and a chance for your child to build skills beyond decoding, like fluency and comprehension.

Our writing focus for the term will be on poetry and digital texts. Students will explore different types of poetry each week, and fill out their own poetry book throughout the unit. After, students will utilise their digital technologies skills to create their own digital text. Students will also participate in explicit lessons to expand their syntax knowledge.

At home you can:

  • Read and fill in the reading log book.
  • Use the LLLL online platform for targeted digital books (login in reading log books).
  • Practise heart words (in random order).
  • Explore simple digital tools together. Take a photo, record a voice note, type a sentence to build confidence.
  • Take authentic opportunities for reading and writing practise for poetry such as reading poems or creating rhymes.

Numeracy

Students will explore multiplication and division through the idea of sharing into equal groups. They will begin to explore the link between repeated addition, multiplication and division as an inverse operation. They will also investigate mass and capacity, comparing and measuring using informal units, and use this to predict and check which items are heavier, lighter, or hold more or less. Throughout the term, students will also apply their number and measurement skills to everyday problems.

The term will finish with a revision of key concepts covered across the year, helping to consolidate learning heading into term one of 2027.

At home you can:

  • Practise sharing items equally, such as dividing snacks, toys or chores between family members.
  • Talk through 'how many groups' and 'how many in each group' during everyday sharing.
  • Use language and explore concepts such as heavier, lighter, more, less.
  • Involve your child in cooking or baking, using scales and measuring cups.
  • Use your child’s login for Essential Assessment to complete My Numeracy tasks.

Digital Technologies

This term in Digital Technologies, students will be creating digital solutions. They will investigate problems that could be solved using digital systems, thinking about the needs of the people who would use them. This includes designing technologies that solve a problem (for example, recycling) or help with a disability.

Students will learn to follow, describe and represent a sequence of steps needed to solve a problem, including decisions along the way and steps that repeat. They will also discuss how the digital systems we already use help meet people’s needs.

Specialist Subjects

Performing Arts

This term, we will continue with playing music on our recorders. We will use this knowledge and combine it with our skills in playing other instruments like Orff xylophones and ukuleles to create musical arrangements befitting celebrating the end of 2026.

Physical Education

At the start of each lesson this term we will be warming up using skipping ropes. Students will be challenged to skip in different ways such as forwards/backwards as well as try some basic skipping tricks. Students will also continue practising their fundamental motor skills such as throw and strike.

Science

Continuing on from last term’s learning covering Earth and Space Science, students are moving on from weather and space to focusing on Earth’s resources. They will explore how caring for Earth’s water, land and air involves reducing, re-using and recycling materials to help conserve Earth’s resources.

Visual Arts

Our Hero’s Gallery at ART FOR ALL proved to be so inspirational. I hope you had an opportunity to see your artist’s work proudly exhibited beside Vincent Namatjira’s.

This term, students will continue to work with textile art, manipulating fibres to form finger knitting. They will rediscover clay, moulding a pinch pot with a gum tree and building slabs as the face of a hero.

French

Students are building confidence with our morning routine, using the calendar to discuss the days of the week, aujourd’hui (today) and demain (tomorrow), as well as the weather (la météo) and current season (les saisons). They are consolidating vocabulary from last term and practising using familiar French words in everyday classroom conversations. Students are also exploring a French sound each week through songs, rhymes and word activities to develop their listening skills and awareness of French pronunciation.

Here's to a great final term!
