Religious Education
This term in Religious Education, students will explore their Faith Formation with God. This will start with a large focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where many of our Year 3’s will be completing this sacrament in the coming weeks. Students will explore the Bible and understand the different types of writing within this Holy Book. Students will explore what Revelation is and understand the ways that God is made known to people. Students will explore knowing God through the world around us and through people in the Bible and in their own lives.
Design and Technologies
This term in Design Technology, students will be exploring the purpose of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ and identify how they contribute to promote a positive environment. Students will be learning about different types of waste with a specific focus on fabric waste. Students will explore different mediums and building styles to make a variety of products. This subject will lead up to the Christmas Market we host at the end of term, where students will be creating and selling products made from upcycled materials.
Mathematics
This term in Mathematics, we will continue to use evidence-based, knowledge-rich and sequenced lessons. Daily reviews and spaced practice will continue to be incorporated in our Maths lessons in order to reinforce learning and ensure retention. We will use concrete materials to assist with building understanding and incorporate mental maths experiences to develop fluency of number facts. This term our topics include:
Statistics
- Data Investigation
- conducting statistical investigations, collecting data through survey responses and other methods
- recording and displaying data using digital tools
- interpreting the data and communicating the results
Space
- Location
- Interpreting and creating two-dimensional representations of familiar environments, locating key landmarks and objects relative to each other
- Creating and interpreting grid references and using directions to locate and describe positions and pathways
Space
- 3D objects
- making, comparing and classifying objects using key features
Probability
- conducting repeated chance experiments
- identifying and describing possible outcomes
- recording the results
- recognising and discussing the variation
- describing possible everyday events and the possible outcomes of chance experiments and ordering outcomes or events based on their likelihood of occurring
Number
- Multiplication & Division
- multiplying and dividing one- and two-digit numbers by representing problems using number sentences, diagrams and arrays, and using a variety of calculation strategies
- recalling and demonstrating proficiency with multiplication facts for 3, 4, 5 and 10 and applying facts to develop the related division facts (year 3)
- recalling and demonstrating proficiency with multiplication facts up to 10 × 10 and related division facts (year 4)
- developing efficient mental and written strategies for solving problems involving addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division where there is no remainder
- solving problems involving multiplying or dividing natural numbers by multiples and powers of 10 without a calculator
Literacy
In Term 4 we will complete reading our class novel Wild Robot and the persuasive writing focused on the use of robots in our lives. We will then introduce Literature Circles where the students will read, discuss, explore and respond to a fiction novel within a small ‘book club’ group. In Literature Circles, students are assigned specific roles within the reading group in order to explore and respond to the novel and over the course of the term will complete tasks aligned to the key comprehension skills of comprehension monitoring, visualising, question generating and answering and summarizing.
We will strengthen our narrative writing skills when the students revisit narrative writing. Over the course of the term we will explicitly teach and the students will independently write a narrative with characters, setting, action, problem, resolution and conclusion.
Social & Emotional Learning
This term's Resilience Project lessons will focus on Empathy and Emotional Literacy. These lessons will specifically identify the importance of belonging to a community group and our roles and responsibilities for others in that community.
They will explore the importance of believing in and belonging to ourselves so that we can build connections and feel a sense of belonging with others. We will also learn about noticing and managing feelings of envy and jealousy in friendships and how to practise empathy through small gestures of kindness towards others.
STEM
Early in Term 4 the students will engage with Supreme Incursions for a 'Crazy Chemicals' incursion. Students will dive into the chemical properties of matter and materials as they investigate observable properties and everyday uses of different materials through a variety of activities that promote critical thinking and scientific inquiry.
The Term 4 STEM unit will focus on Chemical Sciences and will provide the students with hands-on opportunities to:
- Observe and describe the properties of solids, liquids and gases
- Add and remove heat energy to create a change of state
- Record observations using templates and tables
Specialists
Please see the timetable below for specialist lessons. All Year 3/4 students will be required to wear their sport uniform, white socks and runners on Friday. Students will also need to bring in their library bag and books on their designated library days.
