Principal's Report

End of Term 2 update

With just over two weeks to go before the end of Term 2, although it is the starting point of a new semester for VCE students, there are several important notes for families to be aware of.

Semester Reports

As a starting point, due to the recent AEU industrial action, all parents are advised that our semester reports will not include comments.

Reports will indicate general progress, levels of achievement and general work behaviours.

In Term 3, there will be a parent-teacher conference (date to be confirmed), where I would suggest that all parents make a time to speak to your child’s teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the work being undertaken, the learning progression and the areas of improvement needed moving ahead.

While all teachers provide feedback to students during class, I would urge all families to sign-up for our conferences when they are publicised in the coming weeks before the end of term.

Please note: Semester One reports will be available on the last day of this term (26th June) for families to view.

GAT Examination

Next week sees our VCE students who are enrolled in a Year 12 subject, undertake the GAT exam which is compulsory for all VCE and VCE Vocational Major students.

This test also provides the school and our teachers with valuable information regarding key areas of instruction such as literacy and numeracy as students progress through their schooling, particularly when compared to NAPLAN, PAT testing and teacher judgements.

This data can then be analysed for further student support needs and/or future areas of improvement, as the school strives to continue to improve its performance over time.

As Principal, I certainly wish all of our students the very best and hope that they make the most of the opportunity to display their learning and understanding.

Classroom Learning and Engagement

Often throughout each week I will drop into classes to look at the learning that is taking place and I wanted to thank Ms O’Callaghan for inviting me to 7F’s Drama class last week to view the students practicing their performance piece.

It was particularly pleasing to see the high level of engagement of students as they rehearsed, and I look forward to seeing the final presentation later this year.

This opportunity to view classes and the learning that is occurring across the school is vitally important for myself as Principal, so that I can better understand the learning needs of students and also to witness and acknowledge the positive collaboration, teamwork and engagement of students in class.

Congratulations to Ms O’Callaghan and the 7F superstar students!! Well done!!
