Chev Need to Knows
28 November 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,
Last night, Chevalier College came alive with the joy and warmth of our annual Christmas Carols, welcoming over 2,000 members of the College and Southern Highlands community. It was a truly special evening; a celebration of faith, family, and friendship that reminded us of the joy of the birth of Jesus Christ more than 2,000 years ago.
This event was more than music and lights; it was a living expression of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) ethos, as captured in MSC Constitution #34:
“Ours is a spirit of family and true friendship, formed by kindness and understanding, by compassion and mutual forgiveness, by gentleness, humility, and simplicity, by hospitality and a sense of humour.”
These words are not just ideals; they are the foundation of life at Chevalier College. They shape our educational and pastoral care programs, inspired by the vision of Jules Chevalier, and they were evident in every smile, every carol, and every moment shared last night. The spirit of kindness, humility, and hospitality was palpable, creating an atmosphere of joy and belonging for all.
Of course, events like this are only possible through the generosity and dedication of many. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the event sponsors: Our Lawyers, Australian Survey Solutions, Waratah Building, The Palms Golf Studio, SAOR Skincare, Whitebull Pressure Cleaning, Lime Building Group, Ray White, Macey Insurance, Physio Space, Aureum Finance, Southern Highlands Private Hospital, Leading Electrical, Highland Fires, Links Roofing, Bookshop Bowral, Trimech Pty Ltd and Finders Finance. Your support ensures that traditions like our Christmas Carols continue to flourish.
Our Events Team and Maintenance Team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create a seamless and beautiful experience, and our staff and students provided their talent, enthusiasm, and commitment to showcasing the blessings of the Christmas season.
As we commence the season of Advent and embrace the last few weeks of school as we move towards Christmas, let us carry forward the spirit we witnessed last night - a spirit of family, friendship, and faith. May this season be filled with joy, peace, and the blessings that come from living with kindness and compassion.
Best wishes for the weekend and week to come,
Greg Miller
Principal

Each homeroom has been allocated two individuals to put together a Christmas parcel for this year. Your child may be asked to bring in some money or an item to contribute. I’d encourage you to take your child with you to purchase any requested items. These moments are great opportunities to discuss with your child the importance of compassion towards the marginalised.
We also welcome any families who may wish to put together a package as a family. If you would like to do this, please contact the office and an individual’s name and an item list can be sent home with your child. We ask that all parcels are delivered to the school by Friday 5 December.
This year we are collectively putting together 120 parcels for local community members. Thank you in advance for contributing to this practical expression of Spirituality of the Heart.
Chevalier College is once again supporting the Community Christmas Dinner which provides a Christmas lunch for local community members who are either going to be alone at Christmas or are struggling financially to celebrate the season. With the increased cost of living, last year’s event saw 300 people attend. The College has been asked to contribute by providing Christmas trees. If you have a Christmas tree or tree decorations which could be donated to the event, please drop them into the college by Friday 5 December. Any support is appreciated.
9.05am Friday 5 December - All Welcome.

In light of the recent tragic event within the cricket community, it is timely to reinforce our commitment to player safety. Cricket Australia’s Head and Neck Protector Policy provides clear guidance on the use of approved protective equipment for batters and wicketkeepers.
The College will be following these guidelines and have updated our Risk Management Plan as follows:
We strongly recommend that all participants wear a neck protector in addition to their helmet to help safeguard both head and neck.
For your convenience, the CA Head and Neck Protector Policy can be found here.
