Hola! Me llamo Year 5/6.
Which is… Hello! Our name is Year 5/6.
An exciting part of being in 5/6, is learning a new language! This year we are learning Spanish via our weekly zoom meeting with our real-time and real-life Spanish teacher, Katherin. Katherin lives in Dosquebradas, Colombia and due to the time difference, it is very early in the morning for her when she gives us our lesson!
We have been very busy so far this term, engrossed in our weekly lesson. So far we have learned to say hello, goodbye, yes, no and ‘My name is…’. We have also learned a little bit of the culture of South America, including famous football (soccer) players, animals such as alpacas and llamas, as well as many movies. Have you seen Encanto? It is set in Colombia.
In learning a second language we are developing our skills and understanding, creating a more interconnected, peaceful, and empathetic world for all, through becoming global citizens. Students are not only developing language skills but gaining curiosity and appreciation of other cultures. We are truly fortunate to have this opportunity at school.
Chao! (Goodbye)
