From the Principal

Last week, our Year 7 students took part in GEM Day, a program from The Resilience Project team designed to build Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness skills. The day was filled with engaging and reflective activities that helped students develop emotional literacy and strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing. Highlights included the Ultimate Emotional Literacy Quiz, an Empathy Escape Room, and creative sessions like Superhero Comic Book Strips and Mindfulness Nature Art. It was a wonderful opportunity for our youngest students to find connections within themselves and with others in meaningful ways, and we commend them for their enthusiastic participation. Thank you to Lea-Anne Gaffney and the Year 7 team for all of their hard work.
This week also marks the conclusion of the ESTs and Semester One exams for our Year 11 and Year 12 students. These assessments are a key milestone in the academic calendar, and we commend our students for their focus and determination. As results are returned, we encourage all students to take this opportunity to reflect on their progress, celebrate their achievements, and set clear goals for the remainder of the year. It has also been particularly pleasing to see our senior students embracing the opportunity to complete micro credentials as part of the Year 12 Work Skills and Work Placement Program during the exam weeks. These experiences are equipping them with valuable skills and qualifications that will serve them well in their post-school pathways.
In the sporting arena, we proudly participated in the ACC Cross Country Carnival on Thursday, 5 June, where our students showcased outstanding determination, teamwork, and school spirit. Congratulations to all students who represented Lumen with pride and enthusiasm—you have made our community incredibly proud.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for Lumen Day – the most anticipated day on our school calendar. This special day is not only a celebration of the school’s spiritual foundation, but also a vibrant expression of its mission to be a light in the lives of others—true to the meaning of Lumen Christi, or “Light of Christ.” It brings our community together in a vibrant display of faith, fun, and fellowship. With a wide array of events and activities planned, Lumen Day promises to be a joyful occasion for all. Importantly, all profits raised on the day will be donated to our College charities. All details about the day including how to purchase a Lumen Day wrist band, can be found on daily notices which every student has access to. Further reminders for parents will be sent home in the coming days.
Finally, the College remains committed to continually enhancing the services we provide to our community. Recently, this has prompted us to review of our canteen offerings. To ensure these services align with the needs and preferences of our community, I invite you to share your feedback by completing this short survey (the link to this survey can also be found elsewhere in this edition of the Bulletin). Your insights will help guide future improvements. Similar opportunities for feedback have also been extended to our staff and students.
God bless.
