What's Happening In The Classroom?

Mathematics:

Our Year 2 students have loved using their Chromebooks to participate in interactive Kahoot lessons!

Kahoot is an online quiz platform where students answer multiple-choice questions in a fun, game-like format. During our lessons, the students view each question on their Chromebooks and on the smartboard, carefully consider their answer, lock it in, and then eagerly wait for the results to appear on the screen.

Cheers erupted across the classroom as students watched the leaderboard update in real time, engaging in some friendly competition!

Kahoot has proven to be a fantastic tool for building excitement around learning and encouraging active participation!!

Here's what the students had to say:

Kahoots can be both easy and hard because it makes us think

It makes us check our work first because there are so many choices on the screen to work through

It helps you identify if your favourite strategy is split or jump

I like that you got told the right answer straight away

Almost 100% of Year 2 students said IT IS SO MUCH FUN!!!

Science:

In Science, Year 1 students are learning about materials and their purposes and have been investigating "what happens when we mix things together?”

The students identified the ingredients needed to make green playdough and predicted what might happen if too much water was added or if there wasn’t enough flour. As they combined the wet and dry ingredients, they kneaded the mixture and observed the materials change form to become playdough.

Each student received a piece of dough to continue kneading themselves. They commented:

“it feels like slime!”

"I'm going to add more water to mine when it starts to get dry"

"Now we know how to make this at home"

"Next time we should add glitter"

"Science is the best"

Through this experiment, the students observed how combining materials can change their appearance and texture. They also made their own predictions about what changes could occur.
