Student voice in action!

Earlier in the term we had an amazing visit from the UNE Discovery Bus who shared their love of all things Science with our students. The 'Science meets Art' rotation was a particular hit with the students. They loved the opportunity to use the Light Boxes to support their creative and artistic creations (see below).

The students loved using these Light Boxes so much that the Stage 3 students decided to use their student voice and wrote persuasive letters to Mrs Wait, asking if the school could purchase some to support their learning. 

Some of the main arguments that the students put forward were;

• They would help improve art abilities
• Improve concentration
• Improved resilience in art activities
• More engagement in art activities
• Having amazing technology like Light Boxes would help to promote our school to the wider community.

An example of one of the students persuasive letters is attached below.

Sensing the students passion and witnessing their 'Mary Mackillop' moment (seeing a need and doing something about it), Mrs Wait decided to purchase six brand new Light Boxes for the students to use to support their learning. 

This week students in Stage 3 were given the opportunity to use these new devices. They used images from Sami Bayley's 'Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Dangerous Animals' book to trace and draw images to add to their Dangerous Animal Information Reports that they are currently writing. 

What an amazing example of student voice in actions. Well done students!

On another note - we are excited to see that Home Readers have recently been issued. We look forward to hearing about the amazing reading that is happening at home as well as what we see at school.
