The St Simon basketball teams had an incredible run at the Knox Division Basketball Championships on Thursday 8 October! After two busy days of outstanding performances at our school production, our student-athletes showed true resilience, determination and a genuine passion for basketball, arriving ready to compete and give it their all. Their commitment, team spirit and love for the game were on full display, making us incredibly proud to see St Simon’s basketball culture thriving!

🏀 Boys’ Basketball Team Shoots Their Way to Division Runners-Up!

Our St Simon boys had an outstanding run throughout the basketball competition! After a convincing opening win by more than 20 points, the team battled through a thrilling second game, with Tyler Li’s excellent shooting and defensive efforts, combined with a crucial last-second steal by Darcy Hobbs, securing a nail-biting one-point victory. They carried this momentum into their third game, earning another comfortable win through aggressive defence and strong drives to the basket.

In the Grand Final, the boys faced a familiar rival from the District competition. Despite strong defence, impressive ball movement and determined attacking plays, their opponents pulled ahead in the second half, resulting in a 13–24 finish. Congratulations to our boys on their fantastic teamwork, resilience and well-deserved runners-up finish! 🏀👏

🏆 Girls’ Basketball Journey to Division Champions!

Our St Simon girls had an incredible run at the Knox Division Basketball Championships! They opened with a convincing win, using excellent defence to create turnovers and score baskets, with Ariana Caridyas and Georgia Wood leading the way. A fantastic team effort and execution of their plays secured a hard-fought second victory, followed by another comfortable win, with Ariana Duke dominating the rebounds and contributing crucial baskets.

In the Grand Final, the girls faced a formidable opponent in a thrilling, close contest. Team Victoria athlete Samia Dell Aquila was outstanding in this game, showcasing clever passing, excellent ball handling and agile drives resulting in baskets for St Simon. At the other end, Ariana Duke’s strong defensive presence forced a crucial turnover in the last 30 seconds. With just a two-point lead, our girls held their nerve and dribbled out the clock to secure a nail-biting Grand Final victory! 🏆🏀
