Wellbeing

We can’t believe it is week 5 already! The students have formed many new friendships and settled in well with their new teachers. We had a successful start up program where we focussed on our school values and getting to know each other and our new routines. Now we have moved on to Emotional Literacy by building on vocabulary to identify and describe emotions and identifying the ways in which emotions are shown in body language. We are also exploring comfortable and uncomfortable emotions, and will begin to look at how to interact positively with others in different situations.

Writing

The students have enjoyed learning about the story of the Stone Trolls in Iceland as we delve into our Talk for Writing narrative unit this term. Already, we can see many students applying the writing tools of repetition, alliteration and the power of three in their short burst writing. Ask them to tell you the story of Skess and Landra!

Look carefully, can you see the stone trolls in the photo?

Maths

The students have been looking at place value. They have rearranged numbers to make the smallest and largest numbers, used MAB to make numbers, used number expanders to rename numbers based on place value, and used number lines to order numbers and show their relationships to each other. They have also enjoyed creating graphs using some interesting data about animals, such as the  lengths of an animal’s tongue. Students will also be creating graphs on the ipads.

Discovery

Our Discovery topics this semester are based around Community and Remembrance. We have started by learning about the importance of Country/Place to Aboriginal Peoples. We have also identified the Aboriginal language that belongs to our local area.
