Junior School

Mr Tom Nash, Head of Junior School

Welcome back to our Junior School community. It has been exciting to see our students return to school with energy and enthusiasm. We are looking forward to working with the boys throughout Term 2.

Assembly

Yesterday, we welcomed back students with a year level assembly. The opportunity was used to highlight the following:

  • The positive observations and experiences of the Junior School students in Term 1
  • Address and remind the students of behavioural expectations at St Patrick’s
  • Improving the use of the St Patrick’s College student diary. (Specific correspondence regarding this will be communicated via a separate note.)
  • Discuss the opportunities on offer as a member of the Junior School. This was complemented with a staggering presence of students interested in engaging in the meeting for the Junior Boys Football program which competes in the Ballarat Associated School’s Sport (BAS) competition – there would have been easily more than 120 boys in attendance.

Homework Club

Homework Group is open to all students and will run throughout Term 2 on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night from 3:35pm-4:35pm. This is a great opportunity for your child to access some support to complete their homework. The group is supervised by a Teacher and Learning Support Officers are also present to assist.

Attendance at the Homework group is optional, and students may opt in or out on the daily basis. Students will need to sign in upon arrival and out upon departure. It is expected that if a student attends, they attend for the full duration of the session.

Homework group will not run on evenings when Parent Teacher Interviews run, School Closure Days, on whole school community days such as Swimming/Athletic Carnival days or House Competition days. It will also not run on the final day of term.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Our Parent Teacher Interviews will be held next Monday, 22 April and Tuesday, 23 April.

We looking forward to welcoming our Junior School families and caregivers to the College and discussing the progress of your child. It will be great to see you across the two days.

Recognising our Junior Schoolers

Thanks to those of you who reached out during the holidays to shine a spotlight on your son's achievements.

Whether it's success in the arts, sports triumphs or community contributions, we love hearing news about our students' accomplishments outside of school.

Please continue to share your son's milestones with us and let's inspire the College community together.

Please email me tnash@stpats.vic.edu.au with your news so we can ensure our students receive the recognition they deserve!

Liam Duggan Academy

The Liam Duggan Academy kicks off tonight for 70 of our Year 7 and 8 students.

The academy is led by Brendan McCartney, who is a highly-credentialled Aussie Rules coach with more than 25 years' AFL coaching experience.

McCartney coached the Western Bulldogs from 2011-15 and is currently an Assistant Coach at the Collingwood Football Club.

In addition to this, Brendan runs a junior football program in the Geelong region for elite athletes, where he combines his skills as a trained school teacher with his love of football. Brendan will also engage the services of SPC Old Collegians (RAD centre strength and conditioning) to assist with the implementation of the five-week program.

We hope all participating students enjoy this amazing experience.

Upcoming events

  • Wednesday, 24 April – St Patrick’s College ANZAC Day Assembly. Please note that all students are required to wear their academic uniform (even if PE is scheduled for that day)
  • Thursday, 25 April – ANZAC Day public holiday
  • Friday, 3 May – Edmund Rice Day
  • Friday 10, May – Mother’s Day Mass and Breakfast.

Well done to the students of the Junior School for a productive start to Term 2. We are looking forward to a great term ahead. A reminder to all members of the community to reach out should you wish to discuss your child’s involvement in the Junior School.
