From the Year Prep Classroom

We’ve Hit 100 Days of Learning!
Can you believe it? This Tuesday marked 100 days of learning and what an incredible
achievement by both our students and teachers. It’s been 100 days full of curiosity,
growth, teamwork, and so many "aha!" moments. So, of course, we’re celebrating this
milestone in true style with a day full of fun and creativity this Friday! To mark the
occasion, students are encouraged to come to school looking a little older and a lot
wiser so think walking sticks, grey hair, cardigans and comfy slippers! (Op Shops and
grandparents’ wardrobes might come in handy!) Throughout the day, we’ll be diving into
all things 100, from making fairy bread, to writing 100 things we’ve learnt, playing
number games, and even sharing a special celebration cake. What a fun way to reflection just how far we’ve come and all the exciting learning still ahead. Here’s to the next100!
Literacy Update - Look How Far We've Come!
We’ve kicked things up a gear with our tricky words and it’s showing! Between homeand school, the progress is fantastic. Let’s keep up the great practice together as everybit counts! We’ve also been diving deeper into some key literacy skills and learning lotsof new words like Digraphs. These are two letters that come together to make onesound (like sh, ch, th). They can be sneaky, but we’re getting the hang of them! We nowknow what a ‘vowel’ is and know they are our superstar letters a, e, i, o, u (andsometimes y!). These letters pop up in nearly every word we read and write. As well asdouble consonants. We’re learning to spot pairs like ll, ff, ss, which often show up at the end of words. They’re small but mighty! It’s great to see students building confidence and applying these skills in their reading and writing. Keep up the amazing work, everyone!
Maths in Action!
In Maths, we’ve been loving our active retrieval sessions each week as they’re a great way to revisit and strengthen what we’ve learnt! Lately, we’ve been working hard on addition, especially using 2-digit numbers, and it’s been great to see such strong understanding across the class. Now, we’re moving into subtraction, and learning some key strategies. One important rule we’re focusing on is: Always subtract from the larger number! We’re practising how to count back and understand the idea of finding the difference between numbers. Step by step, we’re building confidence — and having fun doing it!
In RE, we’ve been learning that the Bible tells many stories about Jesus and helps us understand God’s love. On Wednesday, we are excited to learn about Mary McKillop
our only Australian Saint and the Feast of the Assumption with Mrs McInness. We will be learning more about both Mary’s and why they are so special in our faith.
Warm regards,
The Prep Team
