From the Year 6 Classroom

Dear Year 6 Families,

It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks in Year 6, with plenty of learning and memorable moments to share!

In Literacy, students are continuing their novel study on Once by Morris Gleitzman. This powerful story is prompting some deep thinking and discussion, and students are also developing the important skill of note-taking in preparation for their upcoming information report on Poland.

In Maths, we’ve just begun our new unit on angles. Students are learning how to identify, measure, and classify angles, which will lay the foundation for further geometry work.

In Inquiry, we’ve launched our new unit on the systems of government in Australia. We’re exploring how our government works, the roles of different branches, and the importance of democratic values.

We’d like to wish the very best of luck to the students heading to Benalla this Friday to compete in the Hume Regional Finals – we are proud of your achievements already!

A huge well done also to the students who helped host morning tea for some of the Woods Point residents last Friday. It was heartwarming to see the thoughtful interactions and conversations shared across generations.

Don’t forget – Book Week is just around the corner! Our much-anticipated Book Week Parade will take place on Thursday, 29th August. More information will be sent home soon, so keep an eye out.

Finally, a reminder that next Wednesday 13th August is a pupil-free day, as all staff will be attending a professional development session.

Thank you for your ongoing support – we look forward to another great fortnight ahead!

Warm regards,

Year 6 Team
