From the Year 4 Classroom

It’s been another busy two weeks in Year Four. What a lovely morning we had celebrating Grandparents Day! It was so special to share some precious time with our grandparents and special visitors. The smiles, stories, and shared moments made it a truly memorable occasion.

In Reading, we have continued enjoying Storm Boy by Colin Thiele. As we progress through the text, students are exploring the meaning of a wide range of new vocabulary. They are also continuing to develop their reading fluency by regularly reading aloud to a partner, helping to build both confidence and expression.

In Writing, we have developed an understanding of the Coorong and learnt about it’s special features. We have written the Introduction to our Information Report and are now focusing on developing our body paragraph.

In Inquiry, we have learnt about the Three Levels of Government- Federal, State and Local. We identified and named the Shire we belong to, as well as the level of Government that is. We then explored how decisions are made democratically, the roles of the mayor, councillor and community members and then we had a mock council meeting!!

In Religion, we listened to the fable of the Hare and the Tortoise and identified how stories can be powerful tools for learning about how to act and how to treat others. We then wrote our own story that delivered the same message and shared it with our peers. We have also explored the key elements of the Parable of The Lost Sheep and the Parable of the Sower, recognising that Jesus used everyday events to teach an important spiritual message. This Friday, 8th August, we will be attending Parish Mass at 9.30am.

Pen Licences- It's been an exciting time in Year 4, as we begin to hand out our Learner Pen Licences. It’s been great to see the amazing efforts students are putting into forming their letters correctly and neatly. We are impressed!
