Westbreen Principal
I am absolutely thrilled to be selected as the substantive principal at Westbreen Primary School. I have been overwhelmed with the kind words and congratulations from so many members of the school community. After a period of change over the past few years, I know that with my appointment will bring stability and certainty to the community, students and staff. I am very excited about the great future ahead for the Westbreen Community.
Welcome and Thank you - Term 3 staffing update
I would like to congratulate Ms Maria Zarkadoulas who is our newly appointed Acting English Learning Specialist. While Ms Maria is doing this role, we warmly welcome Ms Eleanor Marcon, who will be teaching 5/6Z on Tuesday and Wednesdays. I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Ms Kristy Monaghan for her work in this role previously. Kristy's dedication and passion for literacy has been highly valued by our school community. Kristy will now step into the Year 1 PLC leadership role.
We also welcome our new teacher for 1H - Mr Matt O'Callaghan. Matt comes to us with a broad range of teaching experiences. We also welcome (back) Miss Zoe Nathan who will be doing CRT at our school and is currently working in 1C whilst Ms Rani Carter-Cartwright is on leave. We also have two new support staff - we welcome Spencer Campbell who is working as an Education Support staff member and Joel Simmons who is joining us through the Engagement Support Officer Placement Program for students studying youth and social work to complete their placements at our school.
Finally, I would like to congratulate Ms Bronwyn Collister who has accepted a new role as the Community Engagement Officer at Jacana School for Autism. We would all like to thank Bronwyn for her contributions to our school in a range of different roles over the past few years and wish her all the best for her future endeavours. We are currently advertising for her replacement.
New Student Clubs for Term 3!
The students held their first Creators Challenge Club on Monday in the library. Participants were challenged to build the highest tower. Congratulations to our winner Nina in 3M who built a tower which measured 81cm! She will win a Zooper Dooper from the canteen.
Donations please!
Donations are still needed for our Loomband and beading club being held on Fridays. Any donations of Loombands, beads, charms or other jewellery making materials would be greatly appreciated.
NAIDOC Week
During the holidays, our nation celebrated NAIDOC Week. The 50 Years of Deadly theme prompts us to look back in time at the stories, the marches, the languages, the art and the leadership of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Individual NAPLAN Reports
The individual NAPLAN reports for our Year 3 and 5 students will be distributed this week. This will include a hardcopy of the report and a parent/carer information brochure to help families to understand the results. A reminder that we will have 3 way conferences in week 5 but you are always welcome to make a time to meet with your classroom teacher if you would like to discuss your child's progress.
