From the Principal Team
It has been a busy term 3 at Craigieburn Secondary College as our students continue to thrive in all areas of their school life and embrace opportunities to display our new school values of respect, belonging, growth and understanding. We have been able to celebrate the incredible achievements of students and provide them with many opportunities to pursue their passions and pathways.
It was fantastic to see a large number of students presented with a wide range of awards at our Mid-Year Awards ceremonies. Students were recognised for a variety of achievements including academic excellence, sporting achievements and the demonstration of school values. Congratulations to all students who received awards and also to their families for supporting their achievements. It is celebrations such as these that genuinely build school pride and strengthen connections within the school.
Our school value of ‘Belonging’ was reinforced as we recognised and celebrated the diversity of our community through Wear It Purple Day. Our 4C group worked hard behind the scenes to deliver fantastic performances and our instrumental music students demonstrated exceptional talent at the mid-year concert. It was great to see the school community come along and support these performances. This showcase of student talent will be remembered for a long time!
Our staff continued their own learning during our curriculum day this term and were able to come together to upskill and share best practice in teaching and learning. Working collaboratively strengthens our whole school approach to improving teaching and learning, whilst also ensuring the educational journey of every student is prioritised and grounded in best practice. These evidence-based practices are being embedded in the classroom and they are having a positive impact on our students’ learning at the college.
Twenty-first century education requires schools to be vibrant learning communities that equip students with the knowledge and skills to navigate a rapidly changing world. Our Discovery Day event showcased the wonderful work of all learning areas and encouraged meaningful careers and pathways conversations to inform subject selections for 2024. Parent teacher interviews provided another opportunity for teachers to connect with parents and/or carers of our young people and engage in constructive conversations to support student progress. Nurturing this important partnership is a priority for the college as we strive to engage families and provide creative, meaningful and effective learning opportunities for students.
As we notice the days getting longer and the weather getting warmer, it serves as a gentle reminder that change and renewal are constant in our lives and provide an opportunity for us to embark on new adventures with a sense of hope and optimism. We wish all members of our school community a safe, restful and rejuvenating holiday break and look forward to seeing everyone at the beginning of term 4.
