From the Principal

Hello Gympie East parents, carers and community,

In PBL this week, the focus is 'Respect other people's personal space'. This is important to ensure other people feel safe and comfortable. Whether this is during a conversation, working together in the classroom or at play there will be different ideas of personal space and we will learn about how these differ. Next week, we will be focussing on 'Challenging ourselves and being persistent'. As we get to the pointy end of the term, challenging ourselves academically and persevering when faced with a challenge is the best way to overcome it. 

Grandparents’ and Special Persons’ Day 2026 - One of our favourite Gympie East traditions is just around the corner, and we’re excited to invite our families to join us for Grandparents’ and Special Persons’ Day! We know that special people come in many forms. For some students, that will be a grandparent, while for others it may be another treasured family member, family friend or important person in their life. Everyone is welcome to invite someone special to share the afternoon with them.

It will be a wonderful afternoon celebrating the people who play such an important part in the lives of our students, and, most importantly, making some new memories together.

Grandparents and special persons attending are asked to RSVP by Wednesday 2nd of September. We can’t wait to welcome our special visitors to Gympie East for what is always a fantastic afternoon.

The Slime Run is set for Friday 18th September. It's going to be a great event. An email went out to parents with instructions on how to set up a profile. The class with the most profiles set up wins an icy pole party, with out rewards coming up for people who are actively fundraising. Remember, even a small amount is a great contribution. 

Next week is Book Week and we have fun events planned.  On Monday, the Gympie Town Library are coming to read two of the Shortlisted Books to our students. On Thursday 27th, from 10-11am we will be entertained by Author/Musician Valanga Khoza. We are very excited to hear his story and learn from him. The school will cover the cost of this fantastic experience. Finally, on Friday 28th at 9:15am we will have our annual Book Week Parade. There will be prizes for best dressed students, teachers and even parents, but the best part is having fun and showing your love of reading! Premier's Reading Challenge reading logs are due on Friday 28th August.  We have a badge for every student who completes the challenge of reading 20 books for Prep to 4, or reading 15 books for Year 5 and 6. We also have prizes for those who read the most.
