Important updates from Mrs Mann, Mrs Cook & Mrs Strachan
Welcome to the second last issue of the Nurlendi News for 2023! We would like to start by thanking our staff and parents for their cooperation and smooth transition to Compass for roll marking and attendance notes. So far, things have been going well, and we are excited to make the full transition to Compass in 2024.
As we enter into the last few weeks of school, students (and teachers!) are no doubt feeling both excited and a little nervous about the coming year. We are pleased to announce that in 2024, we have Mrs Quinn returning to VPS after some time on parental leave. We also welcome Mrs Clark to Year 6 after her time in Science this year, and Miss Nguyen as a new teacher to our school. Many of you may know Vivien (Miss Nguyen) from OSHC already! We are confident that every teacher will provide a nurturing and caring learning environment for your child to thrive in. Our teachers are excited for the coming year, with many teachers moving to new year levels. Teachers will be moving into their new classrooms on the 5th of December, so some children may be working in a new space for the remainder of the year. Your child's teacher will be in touch with any necessary information in regard to this.
Students will have a chance to meet and spend some time with their 2024 teacher on Tuesday 12th of December for Transition Day. This is an important day both for students and teachers, so please make every effort to ensure your child is present on this day.
We are so looking forward to our first 'Carols on the Lawn' event on Friday 15th of December. This will be held from 4:00-5:30pm on the synthetic oval. This is a great opportunity for students, teachers and families to gather together to celebrate the end of the year, and the festive season.
We understand that some families cannot make Friday night after school events, but choosing any day that doesn't impact after school events is impossible. We hope that as many children and families as possible can attend and use this time to catch up with friends and wish each other well as the year draws to a close.
We ask that all students who are attending are supervised by a responsible adult, and that they sit with them through the performances, coming up to the stage area to sing with their year level when requested. Bring along your picnic blanket, some food to share and be ready to join in with some favourite festive songs!
Once again, we need to remind the school community about safety around the school. Please do not park or walk through the staff car park. This is unsafe for students and for the staff trying to enter/exit the car park. We understand that parking is difficult at the best of times, but particularly at the moment, but unfortunately we have had a few near misses with small children walking in between or behind moving vehicles.
We also remind students that are walking to and from school to move swiftly and safety to and from their destination. Please remind your child that if they are walking to school, they must remain at school once they have arrived.
We also remind students and families of the importance of being aware of their surroundings when walking to and from school, and a reminder for students to practice 'stranger danger' awareness. If you would like some tips on talking to your child about stranger danger, we suggest checking out this page
We would like to thank the families and staff who attended our working bee last week. Despite the rain, we had many enthusiastic hands moving succulents from one area to another, and swiftly moving 4 cubic meters of mulch around the Prep to Year 2 playground. The grounds are looking amazing, and we look forward to holding more working bees in the future!
Miss Strachan and Miss Abrahams would like to remind you that The Vermont Views magazine is still available for purchase on Qkr! This is a great keepsake of 'the year that was' and a fun way to track your child's journey through their school years. Orders have been extended and the final day to purchase the school magazine will be next Friday 8th December.
We have some items of Lost Property here at the office. Please come and ask us if you think they may belong to you. These include:
An almost new VPS Navy Puffer Jacket
Basketballs
Children's glasses and sunglasses
Pokemon and Minecraft items
Watches
Student badges (monitors, student council, planet saver etc)
We would love to invite parents and friends who have helped out this year at Vermont Primary School to attend our Helpers Morning Tea on the 18th of December at 10:30am in the Stadium. This is a chance for the school to acknowledge and thank all those people who have generously given of themselves to support the students and teachers at VPS. This may have been in the classroom with reading, attending excursions or camps, being part of the Community Network, helping with sports and activity days, production etc. Please see the attached flier, and indicate your attendance using the link - https://forms.office.com/r/qyEpn5Z3Qu
We hope to see you there!
Our final assembly to farewell the Year 6 students will be held in the stadium on Friday 15th of December at 9:10am. This will also be where the VPS Blues awards will be presented.
A reminder that students finish school on Tuesday 20th of December at 1:30pm.
We look forward to seeing you around the school over the next few weeks,
Kind regards,
Jess, Joy & Jacci
