Hello Gympie East parents, carers and community,
I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming long weekend and if you're attending the Gympie Show I hope it stays dry. I know the students attending this week are looking forward to getting to check out the Show with their classmates. Congratulations to all the staff and students involved in creating our school show display. Achieving 2nd place is a fantastic result and a reflection of your creativity, teamwork, dedication, and hard work. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, ideas, and effort to make the display such a success.

After this weekend, we will enjoy six full weeks hopefully without too many interruptions so we can get down to Teaching & Learning.
This week, I have been working my way around classrooms observing English lessons and Specialist Teacher lessons. This is a great opportunity for me to do two things - firstly to see students engaging in their learning and I like to pull a few to the side and ask them questions about what they are learning and how they are going. The second reason is to see excellent teachers in their element doing the thing they do best. Our teachers all incorporate their own style and strategies to reach the same goal, and I am pleased to say that they are all doing an outstanding job. Part of the reason they do such great work is not only due to their knowledge and understanding but also the positive relationships they build with students who have a wide range of abilities and personalities.
In PBL this week, we have focussed on 'Flush, Wash, Leave'. Mr Coombs recently replaced all of the taps with faucets that run for 7 seconds after pushing the button to help conserve water. Our students adjusted to this with ease, but it's still important to discuss the importance of washing hands and not playing in or around the toilets. Next week, we will focus on 'Eating brain food to aid concentration'. Lessons will discuss the importance of a well-balanced diet, and we will look at the types of foods that keep us healthy.
