Shape the Clay: Once the clay is soft and easy to shape, kids can roll it into small balls. Most of the balls should be the same size, but they can also make long, thin snakes for variety.
Make a Hole: An adult should poke a hole in the center of each ball using a wooden skewer.
String the Balls: Kids can then slide the balls onto a wire in any order they choose, ensuring there are no spaces between the balls once they are all on the wire.
Create the Head: Roll a larger ball of clay to form the caterpillar's head.
Add Eyes: For the eyes, kids can roll tiny balls of clay and place them on the head.
