A Big Year of Mathematics at Footscray West Primary School!

Throughout this year, we are excited to be working with Brendan Lee to support our teachers to strengthen their expertise in the teaching of Mathematics. Brendan has a deep knowledge of evidence-informed practice and will join us for our two key curriculum days this year, the first being on Thursday 26th March.

Brendan presented at the Department of Education’s Maths Symposium in 2025 and engaged with our Assistant Principals, Liz and Carolyn, last year to identify key areas to continue improvement in Mathematics learning at FWPS.

A new program - EMP (Explicit Mathematics Program)

This year we have introduced the EMP in Grades Prep to Four. The program provides schools and teachers with everything required to run a high quality, rigorous, and research informed mathematics program. With a higher level of support in curriculum crafting, teachers can spend more time in their practice; checking for understanding, responsive teaching, addressing misconceptions and responding in the most effective manner.
