CLASSROOM NEWS!

Prep/1 News
Firstly, a BIG WELCOME to Mr. Cruse, who has had a wonderful few days with us so far this week and welcome back to all our wonderful Prep/1 people! What a great start we have had so far! As we begin the second half of the year, it has been fantastic to see how smoothly our students have come back into term 3. We have transitioned back into school routines, quickly and without any hesitation. This has meant that our learning has kicked off with flying colours!
IMPORTANT DATE: Tuesday 29th July - 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL CELEBRATION
Next week our Prep students will reach their 100 days of school milestone. To celebrate this, we will have a fun day full of activities that are centered around the number 100.
We will celebrate the day next Tuesday 29th July.
I would like to invite our Prep students to come dressed up in bright colourful clothes or as a 100 year old version of themselves to celebrate being 100 days brighter.
To help our Prep students celebrate, I would also like to invite the Grade 1 students to join us by dressing in bright, colourful clothes too. We are so excited to celebrate this exciting day with the kids!

2/3 News
How amazing, we're already into term 3! We are excited to be getting closer and closer to the end of the year, so we've started with heaps of enthusiasm. In Writing, we are working on something a bit different this week - interview skills! With a focus on speaking and listening, the students have been writing open questions to find out information from their peers about their holidays. They will be conducting video interviews and transcribing the answers.
In Maths, we have been having fun investigating mapping. We have looked at map features such as colours and symbols, and learnt that maps are drawn from a birds eye view. We have had a good look at a map of our local area and representing local iconic spots using a key, and have tried to draw accurate maps of familiar rooms. We've just started presenting our learning using pirate's treasure maps, which we hope to show at assembly on Friday.
We are very excited about our returning pre-service teacher next week - Miss Kerr! She will be with us for the next 4 weeks as her final placement in her teaching degree.
4/5/6 With Miss Childs
After a refreshing break, we have jumped straight back in to our learning for Term 3! We started with a holiday recount in which the students were challenged to describe things that they saw, heard, tasted, felt, etc on the holidays.
We then commenced our focus on Poetry. We discussed the elements of poetry and learnt how broad the writing form actually is. This week we learnt how to write a Cinquain and Diamante poems which are both very structured poems that use specific parts of speech including nouns, verbs, adjectives, synonyms and antonyms. Here are some examples of our cinquain poems:
In Maths we have started off with some addition. We are becoming much more efficient at solving equations by using a range of strategies such as 'bridging the ten' and the 'compensation' strategy.
