Mount Buller Camp – Year 11 Outdoor Ed

During camp, students will take part in snow activities like skiing, snowboarding and exploring the alpine environment. It’s a chance to enjoy the outdoors and try something different.

They’ll also learn how to travel from Melbourne to remote areas like Mount Buller using public transport. This links to their current unit on outdoor environments and how humans affect them.

While in the snow, students will study the natural surroundings and learn ways to reduce human impact. They’ll build practical skills and compare alpine environments with others they’ve studied, like coastal and marine areas.

This hands-on experience helps students connect what they’ve learned in class with the real world.

Year 12 Physical Education Excursions

Our Year 12 PE students recently took part in two contrasting fitness sessions at F45 and yoga as part of their study into training methods.

The F45 class offered a high-intensity, functional workout, showcasing the benefits of interval and circuit training. In contrast, the yoga session focused on flexibility, mindfulness, and recovery, highlighting the value of low-intensity training.

These sessions provided valuable insights that directly support students’ understanding of training principles, perfect preparation for their upcoming SAC and exam!

Year 11 Health and Human Development Students Experience Real Care Baby Simulation

Over the past few weeks, our Year 11 Health and Human Development students have taken part in the Real Care Baby simulation—a hands-on experience designed to highlight the realities of parenting.

Each student cared for an infant simulator over a 48-hour period, responding to its needs day and night. The program offered valuable insight into the emotional, physical, and time demands of caring for a newborn, helping students connect classroom learning to real-life responsibilities.

This immersive task supports key curriculum outcomes and encourages empathy, responsibility, and reflection upon the considerations involved in becoming a parent.

Year 9 HPE Students Lead Euro Handball SEPEP Unit

This Semester, our Year 9 Health and Physical Education students have taken charge of their own learning through a SEPEP (Sport Education in Physical Education Program) unit focused on Euro Handball.

SEPEP is a student-centred approach that mirrors the structure of community sport. Students take on various roles—including coach, referee, equipment manager, statistician, Journalist and player—encouraging leadership, teamwork, and responsibility both on and off the court.

Throughout the unit, students have developed their understanding of game strategies, fair play, and collaboration, while actively engaging in a fast-paced and inclusive sport. It’s been fantastic to see students step up and take ownership of their learning in such a dynamic way.

Below is a Sports article written by Jay Brand summarising the event!

Looking Ahead

We’re incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm our students are showing in Health and Physical Education. As we move into the next phase of the term, we’re excited to see students continue building their skills, knowledge, and confidence across all areas of HPE.

As always, if you have any questions about your child’s progress or would like advice on how to support their learning at home, please don’t hesitate to contact their HPE teacher or myself.
