The Monash Scholars Program is a prestigious program for high-achieving secondary school students based in Victoria. Offered by Monash University, this highly regarded program aims to give high potential students a unique head start into university life. It provides opportunities to expand their networks of like-minded peers and allows for personal and academic development, as well as, giving students the knowledge, skills and confidence to make the right study choices.
Three of our students have been accepted into this and have received their Monash Scholars pin. They will be presented with their certificate of acceptance into this elite program in an upcoming assembly.
Congratulations to Juliette Hostein, Chhiv Ling Va and Eva Marinelli! We cannot wait to hear about your experiences.
We are pleased to share that several of our Year 7 and 8 students were offered the opportunity to participate in the Victorian High Ability Programs offered by the Department of Education’s Student Excellence team in combination with Virtual Schools Victoria. These students were selected due to their strong academic capabilities in English and Maths.
In the VHAP English course, students explore links between reality and fiction by journeying into fictional spaces, specifically exploring the novel ‘Hive’ by A.J. Betts, whilst making connections to the world around them. In the VHAP maths course, students embrace the “why” of maths, not just the “what”. Students and teachers dive into the philosophical implications of mathematical topics. These students have embarked on their courses and will receive a certificate of participation for their efforts.
A big thank you goes to Kerri Deegan for supervising and supporting these students in their self-directed learning in our Bluff Road library.
On Wednesday 6th August, our talented SEAL students in Years 7, 8 and 9 participated in the prestigious Australian Mathematics Competition. Designed to challenge students' problem-solving and logical thinking, the competition offers gifted learners the chance to extend themselves and apply their numeracy skills and mathematical thinking to new contexts. Our students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, demonstrating creativity and critical thinking. The test has 25 multiple choice questions and 5 short answer questions, with a gradually increasing complexity of problems for students to complete.
Thank you to Ms. Laura Suckling and Mr. Callum McCombe for supporting our SEAL students and for facilitating the competition in their classes. We look forward to celebrating our students’ achievements when results are released later this year.
