Students as Curriculum Designers

Gallery Image

We are proud to celebrate Ms Doyle’s presentation at the E3 Conference 2026 in Sydney, where she shared an inspiring vision for student-led learning and curriculum design.

“Students as curriculum designers” framed a powerful exploration of agency, community, and learning that lasts, showcasing a three-year engagement journey and an innovative Year 7 History pilot.

At the heart of the presentation was a simple but powerful question: what happens when students build the curriculum? From this, Ms Doyle invited educators to rethink learning through lived experience, identity, and legacy.

Multicultural Week

Multicultural Week at Balmoral State High School was a vibrant celebration of culture, connection and student participation across the campus. From interactive activities through to performances and student-led showcases, the week highlighted the diversity and pride within our school community.

A big acknowledgement goes to our Multicultural Team for coordinating and delivering such a successful program. Special thanks to Khushi, Lewis and Christina for their organisation, energy and commitment in bringing the week to life.

Their work helped create a welcoming and engaging experience for students and staff, and ensured Multicultural Week was a standout event on the school calendar.

Year 7 Music Academy

On Wednesday our Year 7 Music Academy class participated in a Workshop with Mr Mark Bremner from The Conservatorium of Music – Griffith University.

Mr Bremner also plays trumpet with the QSO and was a wealth of knowledge for our year 7s embarking on their performance journey. We all learned a lot about dealing with nerves, the importance of breath work and how to give and receive feedback.

Thank you to Mr Bremner for his time and congratulations to the Year 7 Music Academy class for their fearlessness and willingness to participate so freely in this workshop.

Term 2 Debating Wrap Up

This term has seen some great arguing from our superstar debaters. In week 3 our two year nine teams received the topic That we should ban political advertising from personal algorithms. 9.1 were victorious against Lourdes Hill, and 9.2 went down to Loreto in two close-fought debates. Week 4 again saw two close fought debates for our Year 7 teams with the topic That we should clone endangered animals. 7.1 didn't manage a win over Somerville, however 7.2 came out on top against Brisbane SHS.

Our Year 10 team had an interesting debate against St Laurie's, with both teams winning as they did not have an adjudicator. Our 10s nevertheless impressed us with their arguments for the topic That we should restrict the amount of American content on streaming platforms available in Australia.
