Helping Harriet to settle into Plenty Parklands

Helping Harriet to settle into Plenty Parklands

Harriet, our second wellbeing dog, will be starting onsite soon.  Her first job is to learn to relax at school. A relaxed dog is a healthy dog and we need your help with this. This is her place of learning and working too, so we need to respect her personal space and safety – just like we do with students, staff and visitors. It’s important that Harriet can walk around without unnecessary distractions or feeling unsafe.

When Harriet is onsite, especially in the initial stages, we ask that everyone follows the 3 Expectations. These expectations will support Harriet in learning to relax in such a stimulating environment. The 3 Expectations will then apply when Harriet is moving from location to location or engaged in a task, for example interacting with a group of students.

When you see Harriet, keep these three things in mind:

Once Harriet has learnt to relax, her next job will be to learn to meet more people. We will be taking things slowly and being very careful about how she walks, sits, plays, and greets people. This can take a long time, but we would love for her to be here for years so it is important that she takes her time and enjoys being at school.
