Congratulations to Year 9 student Taylah Voumard who received Athlete of the Month for her outstanding netball achievements outside of school alongside her work in the classroom.
In early August the college welcomed visitors from Takasago City in Japan (Latrobe City's Sister City) as part of their Sports Exchange Visit. Sports Academy students ran a football session for the student visitors and showed off the facilities we have at the college. It was a great experience for everyone involved.
Basketball Champions Cup
Recently, we had four teams represent Lowanna at the Basketball Champions Cup, where they competed in order to advance to the Elite 8 Round. Congratulations to the U15 Boys and the U17 Girls who will advance to the Elite 8 stage in early September.
Pictured below is Year 9 student Liv Ouchirenko after she recently played a women’s Big V game. Liv's friends Holly and Tayley Reaper are pictured by her side and cheered her on throughout the game.
Gippsland Basketball
Earlier this term we had four teams represent Lowanna College at the West Gippsland Intermediate and Senior Basketball. All teams had a successful day and came first in their age group advancing to the Gippsland Round. The Seniors competed in the Gippsland Round on the 14th of August, with the boys having another successful day and advancing to the State Finals.
Intermediate Gippsland Soccer
We recently had two teams play at the Gippsland Soccer. The boys team won 2 of 3 games, just missing the State Finals, and the girls' team were undefeated, advancing to the State Finals which will be this month. Good luck girls and well done everyone.
Junior Soccer
We wish the Year 7 Soccer Team all the best at the State Finals on the 5th of September.
Well done to Year 11 student Xavier Ladbrook who was selected for the U17s Vic Country Team.
Congratulations to 2024 graduate Ricky Mentha who has recently re-signed to Melbourne Demons AFL Club until the end of 2026. We look forward to following Ricky's success on and off the field.
Pictured left is staff member Riley Baldi playing for Casey Demons VFL where his talent has been recognised. Riley continues to be an asset, regularly beating AFL-listed opponents.
Congratulations to past student Jaz Shelley who was recently awarded Women’s Most Valuable Players for NBL1 South.
Congratulations to PE teacher Mr. van Dyk who recently played his 150th Senior Club game for Moe Football Netball Club.
Congratulations to Year 12 student Kya Smith who represents Gippsland Stars U17s, after getting a season opening win against the top of the ladder team.
Recently, 96 LSA students attended the Gold Coast Suns and Carlton Blues game in courtesy of AFL Gippsland who gifted Lowanna Sports Academy free tickets, transportation and food at the venue. We would like to thank AFL Gippsland for their generous donation - students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the game and experience together.
A couple of weeks ago, the Lowanna Intermediate Boys competed in the State Quarter/Semi Finals for football. The boys competed against Frankston in the Qualifying Final, winning by 4 points and moving onto the Semi Final against Rowville. The boys put up a good fight but couldn’t get the win. Well done boys.
All students have been provided with a Sports Academy diary, which they use to record weekly goals, gratitude, homework and daily reminders for all subjects and events.
The diary is a great learning tool and we would love parents to take an interest in students' homework, learning tasks and everything else that is going on at school.
