RECYCLING TONER CARTRIDGES AT NARANGA
Have you heard of the program Close the Loop?
Naranga School has been committed to recycling toner cartridges through Close the Loop’s free cartridge recycling program for schools over many years. Back in 2021 during a period from April to June we managed to recycle 15kg. Last year from July to September we recycled 6.36 kg. From October to December, we recycled 10.10 kg.
What do Close the Loop do with the waste collected from schools?
The company clean and send products back for refilling, separate and sell raw materials, collect any ink for reuse, shred plastics and mix with toner powder to make new products like Toner Plas. Toner Plas is a mixture of toner powder and asphalt to create a high-quality road surface.
Our everyday actions are keeping waste out of landfill and repurposing materials for another sustainable use. I would like to thank Mr Grover for managing this recycling program in our school. Naranga can be proud of the number of certificates we have received over the years for our participation in the program.
VICTORIA’S CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME
Exciting news about recycling at Naranga School. As a Resource Smart School, we are getting involved in this recycling scheme to reduce waste and repurpose materials.
How can families get involved? :
- Check your aluminium, plastic, steel, and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150ml and 3 litres for a “10c” mark on the container.
- Return the empty containers to Naranga School. Each class can collect the bottle or cans then take them to the large green container located in the staffroom.
- When the green container is full, we will take turns to place the items to the refund point at Karingal Shopping Centre. Money raised will benefit our school community.
Help make our school an even better sustainable environment whilst raising money to support our students.
Thank you for your support.
