MIDDLE School Update

Dear Parents/Carers and Students

As Term 1 draws to a close, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been a fantastic start to the year at Frankston High School. Our Middle School students have embraced the year with enthusiasm, demonstrating our core values of respect, responsibility, resilience, and empathy in all aspects of their learning and school life.

A special thank you to our Year 9 students for their exceptional approach to NAPLAN. Their positive attitude and determination exemplified our school’s commitment to excellence, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts. This term also marked the successful launch of our Year 9 Optima pastoral care classes, fostering student wellbeing and personal growth in alignment with our vision of supporting every student to reach their full potential.

In addition, we extend our appreciation to all Year 9 students who participated in the Morrisby Profiling. This valuable career education tool, provided by the Department of Education, helps students explore their strengths, interests, and career opportunities. Next term, students will have the opportunity to review their results in one-on-one career interviews with expert consultants, supporting them in making informed decisions about their future pathways. Families can find further details on the Compass newsfeed, and students should have completed their registration during Optima classes.

Our Year 10 students have been actively engaged in a variety of enriching experiences, including our Teen Mental Health First Aid program, pastoral care sessions, and careers workshops. These initiatives play a crucial role in preparing students for the future by equipping them with essential life skills and strategies to navigate challenges with confidence.

Work Experience is a mandatory component for all Year 10 students and will take place in the last week of Term 2 (Monday 30 June - Friday 4 July). This is an invaluable opportunity for students to explore career pathways and gain real-world experience in their chosen fields.

Please note that Work Experience forms, signed by students, parents/carers, and the employer, were due on 28 March. Any outstanding forms may result in a delay in processing and compliance checks. Additionally, for students requiring White Card training, this will be completed onsite at Frankston High School in May. If you have any questions or concerns, please email workexperience@fhs.vic.edu.au and ensure you access the Work Experience website for further details.

As we approach the Easter holidays, I hope all families take the time to rest and recharge. Please note that the first day of Term 2 for Year 9 and 10 students (Tuesday, 22 April) will be a work-from-home day due to a professional practice day for some staff. Learning tasks will be provided on Compass, and classes will resume on campus from Wednesday, 23 April.

A heartfelt thank you to our Middle School Leadership Team and staff for their unwavering commitment to our students’ success. Their dedication ensures that Frankston High School remains a collaborative community where everyone is supported and challenged to achieve their full potential.

We encourage any student who may need support—whether academically, socially, or emotionally—to connect with their Middle School leaders at any time throughout the year. Our team is always available to offer guidance, encouragement, and assistance to help every student thrive.

At Frankston High School, we continue to uphold our school motto, Optima Semper: Best Always, inspiring our students to strive for excellence in all they do. Wishing all students and families a safe and enjoyable break.
