Our family have recently celebrated the life of our dear old mum who is now spending eternity with Jesus. She lived a good life, and although her loss is being deeply felt by her family and friends, my siblings and I are forever grateful for the legacy of love and kindness that she blessed many with, and that she has instilled into each one of us. Mum really taught us that love and kindness are so important, always giving and blessing others with words of encouragement and gratitude.

In this our final term of a Jubilee Year, I am reminded of how our year started – giving thanks at our Founder’s Assembly for the incredible visionaries, the practical builders and doers, and the prayer warriors who believed that with God, Christian Education would be offered to their children and the generations to come. Today, we are blessed by their legacy of love, and we give thanks to God for the wonderful community in which we live and learn together.

We also launched our 50 Acts of Kindness, encouraging classes, students, teachers and families to extend kindness to those around us. As we do this, we also extend gratitude to God for his goodness and grace, found in the people and places we enjoy as part of this community. The little box of cards sits on my desk, and I am regularly prompted to open it up and take time to consider how a small act of kindness might bless another person’s day. As we engage in these Acts of Kindness, we too are building a legacy of love.

The flipside of the card is a daily reminder of how we, as God’s children, should be posturing ourselves each day – filled with gratitude, thinking about others, finding ways to bless, and being generous with our words and actions. As Jesus’ words in Acts 20:35 remind us, “it is more blessed to give than to receive”.

Next week will see the first of our 2026 Orientation sessions commence, with our pre-Prep students coming to ‘big school’ for the first time. These little ones will be the recipients of the legacy of love that has gone into our Prep program over many years.

With gratitude, we thank Helen Reid for the season of leadership she has provided in Prep for the past 3 years. We are delighted that Kellie Westcott will be leading the Prep Team in 2026, and give thanks for the legacy that she and the Prep team will continue to build throughout the upcoming season.

It is our prayer that each one of our students, from the youngest to the oldest, will not only see the tangible blessings that surround them, but also the way God works in the little things each day – and that they will hold a deep sense of gratitude for all that they are blessed with as part of their family and our College community.

Our prayer goes further…it's our hope that, as gratitude is expressed, that we too will continue to build upon and carry this incredible legacy of love into the future, ensuring that for the generations who follow, God’s kingdom work through Christian Education will bless and equip all who call DCC their own to fulfil their God-given purpose.
