As the Foundation students continue to develop their letter-sound knowledge, it was only fitting that they made jelly when learning about the letter 'j'. It is great when we can enjoy the delicious results of our learning!

"It was the best day ever!" Foundation

Year 1

This week, we have celebrated Family Week. We each brought in an item that is special to our family.

I have a golden cross with a diamond crystal in the middle. The cross stays in my bedroom. My grandma gave me the cross. The cross is important to me because it makes me feel safe. Depending on where you look, the diamond crystal shows different colours.

- Ezra

I have a photo from when I was in Adelaide with my sister, my mum and my dad. It means a lot to me because it's a special photo that makes me feel happy when I look at it. I keep the photo in a frame where my sister sleeps in the same bedroom as me.

- Abigail

I have a photo of my dad, my mum and my dog. My dog's name is Cello. I was a baby when my dad took this photo. This photo makes me feel safe. I keep this picture in my bedroom on the bench across from my bed. I love my family and my dog.

- Stella

I brought in a frame that has a photo of my sister and I. It also has our handprints. I was three years old and Aleisha was six years old. We keep this frame next to a statue of Jesus in our house. This is special to our family because it celebrates my sister and I.

- Aiden

My special item is a photo of my mum, my dad and I. We were in Malaysia. We always go on family holidays to Malaysia so it is a special place for us. My aunty and my grandma was also there.

- Audrey

I love my mum and my dad. I have four photos of my family. We were at the beach together.  - Bruno

I brought in a photo of my mum, my dad, my brother and I. We were at the beach together. I also brought in a pasta cutter wheel. My mum used to use this when cooking with her mum (my nonna) when she was little. It is special to our family.

I have photos from Dashain Celebration. Dashain is the main festival of Nepalese people from Hindu culture.

The Water Cycle                                                                              by Roery Villegas

Water from the sea (or a similar body) is warmed by the sun. Evaporation comes next, the water vapour turns into clouds, which are full of water droplets.  When the clouds get heavy and can’t hold the water droplets anymore, it starts to rain. This is called precipitation. The clouds are full of water droplets which fall down to the ground.  Surface runoff happens and empties into lakes and rivers. Trees take some of the groundwater to feed the leaves. Water is also used to grow crops. The rest of the water runs underneath the surface where it is stored in the ground. The Water Cycle is named because this process happens all the time.

                                     Alex Mateski

Did you know water from the sea is warmed by the sun?  Warm air then rises but it turns the water into gas. This process is called evaporation,  The water vapour rises up to form clouds, this causes condensation. When there is too much condensation the clouds become really heavy and water droplets fall from the clouds. This is called precipitation, or rain.  Rain goes down the surface run off that infiltrates the soil and the ground. It is also absorbed into trees and plants and some of it heads back into the sea or in water sources. Then it all starts again, that is the Water Cycle!
