From the Captains

Welcome!

Welcome back to the From the Captains Newsletter! For those new to the St Helena community, this segment of the bulletin was introduced by last year’s wonderful leadership team, and we are so excited to be continuing it. Watch this space for updates on all things student leadership, from fundraiser updates to insight into our weekly meetings.

First off though, we want to introduce ourselves. We are Niamh, Mike, Martina and Nathan, your 2023 College and Vice Captains. Across the four of us we have a wide range of passions and interests, such as baking, playing sports, music and youth advocacy. Most weeks you will be hearing from Niamh, who will be writing and editing the majority of our issues, along with the wider leadership team when they have important updates to share.

So They Can

During March, St Helena Secondary College will be raising funds for “So They Can”, an organisation centred around providing children in sub-Saharan Africa with quality education. Our goal is to raise $15,000 through various fundraisers held throughout the month to help keep 25 girls in Kenya and Tanzania in schools, and out of child marriage. Upcoming events include BBQs, a bakesale, a free dress day and a comedy show, so get excited and start spreading the word!

If you are currently able to donate you can find our fundraising page here https://1humanrace-2024.raisely.com/st-helena-secondary-college-melbourne.

A Message From the Sports Captains

Hi all students,

Firstly, a massive congratulations to the Senior Boys Basketball Team, Senior Boys Cricket Team and the Senior Girls Table Tennis team for making it to the next round.

Secondly, Sign-ups for Term 2 Sports have now opened!!

Please see the Sport Sign Up tab in this newsletter to sign up.

All you have to do to sign up is click the link for your year level, fill in your name, form/strive group and select what sport you would like to play.

We would love to see as many students as possible signing up and representing the school and remember you don't have to be a pro at the sport to play, if you're interested in it and want to play just give it a go and have fun.

Please keep in mind girls AFLW is on a different day to the other sport so any girls wanting to play AFLW can choose that and also play another sport if they choose on the main day.

These are due on Friday the 1st of March for year 11 and 12 students, and by the end of term 1 for year 7 to 10s.

Students were also sent this information through their year level Teams pages.
