PRACTICUM STUDENT - MISS SQUIRE
Mrs Quirk and 5/6 Q welcomed Miss Squire into their classroom at the start of the term as she commenced her seven week practicum. Miss Squire is a familiar face to our students as she has been working as an Education Assistant at St Francis Xavier’s for the past two years while completing her teaching degree through the University of New England.
We wish Miss Squire all the best for her last placement prior to completing her degree!
YEAR 6 - ST MARY'S COLLEGE TRANSITION DAY
On Tuesday 24th October, the Year 6 students attending St Mary’s College in Gunnedah next year attended their first day of high school transition. The St Mary’s College bus collected the students from school and picked up the Year 6 students from Sacred Heart Primary School in Boggabri on the way through to Gunnedah.
The students attended a science class and completed a brilliant experiment using different colours, water, a chemical solution and test tubes! They also drew on special absorbent paper with textas, then poured water over the textas marks to make them run together in order to copy a coloured pattern.
After morning tea, the students loved participating in a scavenger hunt in the St Mary’s College onsite ag plot. They had to find different vegetables, name flowers, count the chickens and their eggs, look at the aquaponics and find the inspect box!!
SPEECH THERAPY TRAINING
Our team of Education Assistants as well as our Inclusion Support Teacher have recently attended a very useful and informative speech therapy training session here at school. Mrs Bernadette Yeo from the Catholic Schools Office has created a program that aims to develop the articulation of all students. This program will be utilised across the diocese however, we are excited to be the first school to implement it. Our Kindergarten students commenced the program last week.
NEW PLAYGROUND PROGRESS
The new Primary Ninja Course playground is taking shape with construction completed last week!! The students are waiting patiently for the finishing safety touches so they can get out there and start playing on the course!!
KINDERGARTEN STORY TIME
Our Kindergarten students received a special visit today from Mrs Bettina Brown. Mrs Brown read her published children’s story, The Rainbow Zebra to the students. This visit was extra special as Mrs Brown’s grandson is also in Kindergarten. A huge thank you to Mrs Brown for sharing this remarkable story with the students.
STAGE 1 - DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
During Term 4, students in Stage 1 are learning about digital technologies in Science. The students were tasked with choosing a digital system that was either a new original design or to come up with a way to improve an existing design. Once their designs were finalised, the students had to create a model of their design. They brought in materials from home and used cardboard, styrofoam, aluminum foil, a variety of arts and craft supplies and lots of sticky tape to assemble their design. They were excited to see their creations come to life!! Afterwards, in groups they discussed the best part and what they liked most about their system and how they could improve their design.
