Legally Blonde News
Heather Fehring | School Production
92 students from across all year levels have been busy rehearsing on Tuesday and Thursday nights throughout the term, along with several Sundays, to put together this year’s College Production - LEGALLY BLONDE. Supported by 12 Staff members this College event inspires creativity, and is building interpersonal skills, confidence and student engagement at the College.
The cast will soon be joined by 38 crew members as the work on the props, set, lights and sound bring the scenes to life on stage.
Here’s what the students have to say:
Alex Wilson (Year 7)
The best thing about being involved in the College Production is getting to meet new people and be part of something really exciting.
A part in the show the audience should definitely watch out for is So Much Better because it has both ensembles and it’s such a great full song!
Although it’s two words, I would say hard working because everyone in Legally Blonde has been nonstop working hard to make sure the audience gets the best show possible, and also because Elle Woods works really hard to prove everyone wrong and get Warner back!
Airlie Harkin (Year 8)
I love performing with everyone who enjoys it and I love getting to meet people who love musical theatre too!
In Oh My God You Guys, the audience should keep an eye out for when Elle goes behind the curtain... make sure you don't blink!
I would use the word PINK to describe Legally Blonde!
George Millward (Year 9)
The best thing about being involved in the College Production is the amazing people you get to work with.
Audience members should look out for Bend and Snap because that's when my character, Kyle, appears.
One word to describe Legally Blonde is chaotic.
Henry Helmore (Year 11)
The best thing about being involved in the college production is meeting new people and hanging out with friends.
One part that the audience should watch out for is in There Right There - Gay or European (I’m very unbiased). You'll know why when it comes up!!
One word I’d use to describe the LEGALLY BLONDE musical is EXPLOSIVE.
Zara Behrend (Year 12)
The best thing about our musical is definitely the wonderful community we’ve built in our cast.
It’s been so great seeing everyone get closer over the weeks and it’s so so rewarding making new friends. The audience should keep a keen eye in Oh My God You Guys when Elle goes behind the curtain!
One word to describe Legally Blonde would be empowering!
Rachel Tusia (Year 12)
The best thing about being involved in Legally Blonde is the people! I love the sense of community and friendships that the production creates. Laughing and joking with my friends or getting to know people in other year levels is an absolute highlight, and definitely what gets me through a gruelling rehearsal some days. This production is so great, and it’s made great by the incredibly hardworking staff, and lovely, talented cast. WE’RE DOING AMAZING GUYS! KEEP IT UP!
Watch out for Dewey’s scene! He’s mean, awful, and gross but seeing Paulette get her dog back, with about as much grace as you’d expect, is very heartwarming. Plus, Zara’s portrayal of a yucky middle-aged man is incredible.
Spectacular is one word I would use to describe the show. Everything I’ve seen so far has been absolutely jaw-dropping and I am so so so SO excited to see it all come together.

Theatre Studies
Laura Washington | VCE Theatre Studies Teacher
Congratulations to the cast of The Unraveling
The VCE Theatre Studies Class of 2026 successfully presented their production of 'The Unraveling' by Finn Kennedy as part of their final assessment for Unit 3 Outcome 1 on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th May. The group performed to an enthusiastic audience comprising of fellow students, teachers, ES staff, parents, alumni and VCAA Guest assessors.
There was an outpouring of wonderful feedback after both shows, and the post show Q&A on Thursday night served to impress the VCAA guest assessors, who marvelled at the excellent ways in which students explained their intention and used theatrical terminology to describe their acting, direction and design decision-making. So many people were amazed by the highly creative choices they saw on stage and felt the acting was superb.
Here are just some of the comments provided:
Such an engaging show - I was captivated.
Best moment in the show? Definitely the ZOMBIES! Acting, lighting, direction all working seamlessly to create a clear effect for us in the audience… very funny too!
One of the strongest VCE productions at Sandy .
I LOVED the three narrators; they worked so well together.
The dismantling of the world at the end was powerful.
OH and the jump scare of the zombies was visually stellar. AND THE LIFTS. Great!
Blocking of Narrators… fabulous.
LOVED it. Always good to see a Sandy VCE production.
They seem like a very strong group with their performance skills.
I was genuinely impressed with the way your students spoke [in the post show Q&A]… confident, clear and very knowledgeable.
Well done Class of 2026 - we are so very proud of you. Your hard work paid off! Let's channel that enthusiasm, deep knowledge of production roles and commitment to your studies and apply it to our work on Monologues!
Excursion to Stella The Musical
On Friday 14th June, the VCE Theatre Studies class attended the preview of a new Australian work: 'Stella: The Musical,' showcased at the Alexander Theatre at Monash University's Clayton Campus. Having studied the libretto in class and armed with a range of key moments to look out for, the students were excited to see this text brought to life.
About the show:
"Literary icon Stella Miles Franklin’s extraordinary life story has until now been overshadowed by attention on her debut novel My Brilliant Career and the literary awards that carry her name - the Miles Franklin Award and The Stella Prize.
This world premiere production of STELLA: A New Australian Musical now brings Franklin’s untold story of an 1890’s bush girl from the Snowy Mountains who sacrifices family, security and belonging in relentless pursuit of a creative life - and her stunning contribution to Australian cultural life."
Our VCE students thoroughly enjoyed analysing and evaluating the stage show and considering how the cast and creatives have interpreted the libretto written by Monique DiMattina. We are having rich discussions in class and students are busily working hard preparing for their upcoming SAC which requires analytical and evaluative responses to this production.
