Games, Flat, Musical Ride State Championships 2026

What a fantastic weekend at the 2026 State Games, Flat & Musical Ride Championships! 

Riders from across Victoria braved the winter weather to compete in a fantastic weekend of competition. It was wonderful to see such strong camaraderie between teams, with riders supporting, encouraging and celebrating one another throughout the event.

On Saturday 20 June, Mounted Games riders competed in the Kay Irving Memorial Games, tackling eight exciting games:

• Game 1 - Bending & Baton Relay
• Game 2 - Postman's Chase Race
• Game 3 - 2 Mug Shuffle
• Game 4 - 2 Flag Race
• Game 5 - Baton Relay
• Game 6 - Tent Pegging
• Game 7 - Pyramid Race

• Game 8 - Flag & Drum Relay

   

On Sunday 21 June, Flat Pairs and Flat Teams of Four demonstrated exceptional teamwork as they performed a rehearsed dressage test before learning and riding an unrehearsed test with just 10 minutes of preparation. Their ability to ride in harmony and precision alongside one another was truly impressive.

The Ian Wardell Memorial Musical Ride competition saw teams of four take to the arena in colourful costumes to perform their own choreographed routines. Each performance showcased creativity, teamwork and entertainment, with themes including Trolls, Hairspray, the Circus, the Village People, Cowgirls, Braveheart, How to Train Your Dragon, Barbie and Beauty and the Beast.
