Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
2026

Two weeks with 3/BM have already flown by, and what a wonderful start we have had together in the Kitchen Garden Program. The students have shown great enthusiasm and curiosity as they have worked together to create a range of delicious foods in the kitchen. It has been wonderful to see them developing their cooking skills, trying new ingredients and flavours, and working cooperatively with their classmates. The children have embraced each task with excitement and should be very proud of their efforts.
Unfortunately, the heavy rain last Thursday meant that we were unable to spend time in the garden. While we were disappointed to miss our outdoor session, the wet weather was certainly welcomed by our plants and garden beds. With the sunshine making a return this week, we are looking forward to getting back outside and tackling some important garden jobs. The students will be busy digging, raking, weeding and pruning as we work together to keep our garden healthy, productive and ready for the cooler months ahead.
A special thank you goes to the wonderful volunteers who have generously given their time to support our Kitchen Garden sessions. Their help and encouragement make a tremendous difference and allow the students to enjoy valuable hands-on learning experiences in both the kitchen and the garden. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Milena (Lucy’s mum), Ashleigh (Azaria’s mum), Christina (Violet’s mum) and Chetan Mani (Aarav’s dad). Thank you for sharing your time, energy and enthusiasm with our students. We look forward to another exciting week of cooking, gardening and learning together.
Happy cooking!

Ivy - My group is tomatoes. I made cheese straws.
Violet - My first cooking lesson was amazing. I was in the eggplant group and we got to make zucchini carbonara. We needed salt, pepper, cream, capsicum, parmesan, oil and pasta. My first thing I had to do was cut up zucchini in the thinnest you can. Then we cut up the capsicum in little pieces. We put all the cut up food in a bowl and put it in the oven. After that we put oil in the bowl with the food and stirred it. After that we put all the food in the oven with the pasta and cooked it.
Lucy - On my first lesson in the kitchen garden we did a lot of things. My mum came to help out with the cooking.
Scarlett - I made cheese straws, basically cheese breadsticks. It was very fun to make this.

Lucy - In this lesson it was fun and not so fun. The not so fun thing was that when me and Azaria had to mix up this gooey stuff and one by one lots of people put different ingredients in. But the bad thing is…….they put green yucky stuff in that looked like seaweed! And I ABSOLUTELY HATE seaweed! Buuuuuut I really wasn't supposed to be in that group. I only got moved to that group because there weren't enough people in that group. Me and Azaria named our eggs. My one was called Michael Jackson and Azaria’s one was called Speckled Eggs. I hope you enjoyed my annoying speaking.

Later we used a fork for the thing inside to not come out and put it in the oven.
