Professional Learning and Development

Our work this term has a real focus on preparing for 2025. It is always a challenging time to continue the important teaching and learning programs for Term 4, whilst at the same time preparing ahead for the changes to the curriculum and to update resources, assessments and learning activities.

Professional Learning for staff now shifts its focus to their annual Appraisal and Recognition process. This is an annual process, embedded within our EBA as well as the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) which provides teachers the space and opportunity to reflect on their teacher practices and professional learning.

The Appraisal and Recognition Process (ARP) aims to:

  • Demonstrate Professional Practice and Growth in accordance with the AITSL Standards of Professional Practice of at least the Proficient Level
  • Invite discussion to identify and plan for individual professional learning and development that align with the College Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) and the Annual Improvement Plan (AIP)
  • Facilitate open and honest conversations to build further trust and respect.

The AITSL standards that teachers will be reflecting on are:

  • Standard 3 – Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
  • Standard 4 – Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments
  • Standard 5 – Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning

As professionals, it is important to reflect on our work for the year and our practices, just as we would ask our students to reflect on their learning for the year and establish some achievable goals for 2025.
